Hello SCT friends! It’s Allison here with a little peek into the Sketches 2024 class I’ve been teaching this year. This class has been truly an amazing experience! Connecting with so many scrapbookers and seeing their creations each month has made this year so very special. It always blows my mind that we can all start with the same sketch and fill a gallery with hundreds of layouts and not a single one looks like the other.
Each month there is a new sketch, a lesson based on that sketch, and three layouts I’ve created. There’s been a mix of one-page and two-page sketches. The lessons cover many topics that focus on adapting and customizing those sketches to better fit your needs with lots of bonus sketch options giving a visual of those adaptation ideas. I am a firm believer in the fact that sketches can be valuable and useful for every single scrapbooker and this class further proves that point.
Today I’m sharing a layout with you that I created based on our sketch for November using the awesome Snow Pine Lodge from Simple Stories. The sketch is a one-page sketch that features a square background covered in a variety of different sizes and styles of banners. The lesson this month had a strong focus on themes and how to incorporate them into different sketch designs. That lesson served as the inspiration for the layout I’m sharing with you today.

Supplies | Patterned paper, stickers, foam words, die cuts, and enamel dots: Simple Stories Snow Pine Lodge collection; Cardstock: American Crafts; Glitter: Stickles by Ranger Ink; Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Hills cut file: Silhouette Design Store #3353; Embroidery floss: DMC; Font: Century Gothic
Instead of using banners for my background, I created snow-capped hills that are layered and overlapped to help me create a snowy scene.

I used my Silhouette to cut the hills out of various patterned papers. Then I traced the top edge of those hills onto white cardstock and hand drew the wavy bottom edge to create the snowcap for each hill. Each of those were cut out with scissors and adhered to the top edge of the patterned papers.

I wanted to add lots of texture and dimension to the background so I also added some hand-stitching and Stickles for lots of glittery sparkle on those white pieces.

To create the scene I added houses at the bottom edge, a few trees along the middle, and then some snowflakes all over. In my head I wanted this to look like a small mountain town with houses, a tree line, and lots of snow.

This layout was so fun to dream up and create and doing that was quite easy since I had the sketch as a starting point.
Let me tell you, the gallery for this month has been incredible! There have been layouts with leaf garlands, flying butterflies, layered waves, cars driving across the page, Christmas lights, mountains, spiderwebs, and so many beautiful banner designs. It’s impossible to look through those galleries and not immediately feel motivated and inspired.
