Some fun things coming your way…and of course, a giveaway!

Some fun things coming your way…and of course, a giveaway!

Good morning SCT friends!  This is one of my favourite parts of the day when I get to sit down and reach out to you through this blog.  Whether it's sharing great projects from our team, introducing some guest designers and their work to you or my personal favourite is Friday when we can end the week with a giveaway!

Before we get to the giveaway, I thought I would take a minute (or five!) to share some exciting things with you and because I love lists, I'm going to do in list form 🙂

  • If you are on Facebook then you may have seen that we're about 250 fans away from 100,000.  Yes, I really did just type 100,000!  That is a huge number that makes me smile every time I see it.  But want the great part here?  We have not one but TWO big prizes to give away when we hit 100,000.  (I just typed that number again and smiled!!!)  BIG PRIZES!  So, if you're on Facebook but have not followed us yet, it may be a great time to do that here!
  • In just 7 weeks and with the release of our spring issue (March 20), SCT magazine will turn 9.  NINE!  When we launched what we thought would be a little regional publication in March, 2006 we had no idea it would be international by the next issue.  Blessed and humbled are the words that come to mind.  A very talented design team, supportive industry partners, fabulous retailers that distribute SCT and of course, YOU…our incredible readers is what made that happen.  It is why we could not let this birthday go by without doing something really special.  I'm not going to share what it is just yet but mark your calenders for March 21-29!  It's going to be pretty awesome!
  • "Are we a print magazine?"  That is a question we get often these days and the answer is YES!  "Do we have plans to go ONLY digital?"  is another question we often get and the answer is NO!  I won't lie.  We love paper, we love ink, we love the creative process of bringing each issue to life four times a year.  While we do have a digital edition of each issue that you can download for free anytime, we will always have a print edition that you can subscribe to or pick up in a local scrapbook store.  For subscribers it comes in a pretty white envelope right to your door.  Subscription is for postage only friends so if you would like to order a subscription, you can do that HERE.  And, just know we print on really high quality paper that you're going to fall in love with.  If you're a store owner, we have a great distribution program, just contact me at for information.

  • On that note, why don't we get to today's giveaway which is not one, not two but THREE copies of our newest winter issue!  Just leave a comment below by February 5th and you know what I'd like to know?  What is your favourite part of each issue?  Is it a certain article?  Overall how-tos and information from our team?  The feel of the paper and smell of the ink?  We would love to hear what you love about SCT.  And by the way, we are going to use some of those comments on our website!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend friends!  We are very busy preparing for Crop & Create Markham which is just four weeks away!  Imagine Ali Edwards, Doodlebug, Vicki Boutin and Virginia Nebel all under one roof!  After that is Crop & Create Moncton and then Winnipeg!  And between all those events, we will be at ScrapFest and Creativ Festival.  Five events in 8 weeks…I call that a happy spring!

My favourite part is the cover when I first get my copy. Just looking at the cover makes me anticipate all the inspiration that I know will be inside. 😉

  7. Sheri M January 30, 2015 at 10:39 am

Your magazine is the best scrapbooking magazine I’ve ever come across. The photography is beautiful and ideas are so creative. There is so much inspiration in your pages, but the first section I like to check out is the Colour Suite, always fun!

  8. Iris Soscia January 30, 2015 at 10:40 am

I love seeing what other crafters are making and learning what is trending. So much beautiful eye candy.

  9. MaryAnn N. January 30, 2015 at 10:42 am

I also like the cover and choosing if I like one of the other samples made for the cover better. Sometimes I do and sometimes like your choice. I love a paper magazine and SCT is the best of the best.

  10. Tracy Wallace January 30, 2015 at 10:52 am

I like the downloads and Pocket style sections – thanks!

  12. Jennifer S. January 30, 2015 at 10:59 am

  13. Betty-Ann January 30, 2015 at 11:06 am

SCT is a terrific magazine…the quality (Paper! Colour!) is what hooked me from day one almost 9 years ago!

  14. Myra January 30, 2015 at 11:07 am

It is the greatest mag! I love it all especially new DIY techniques.

  15. Roxanna January 30, 2015 at 11:13 am

I would love to win one of your magazines, I don’t think I have ever seen your magazines. I use to subscribe to all the scrapbook magazines until they went away or digital. I will have to look for your magazine the next time I am at a store. Thanks for the chance to win of the magazines.

  16. Judy January 30, 2015 at 11:18 am

Besides being the best of everything, it just wouldn’t cut it if I couldn’t hold it in my hot little hands. I, too, have almost 9 years worth of your magazines and refer to them time and again.
Keep up the good work and keep them coming.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

  17. Sheila January 30, 2015 at 11:20 am

This may sound stupid but I always try and scrap lift your front cover. You always such fun, easy and enabling ideas. LOL

  18. Ange January 30, 2015 at 11:26 am

I would love a copy! I’ve looked at the magazine racks in stores but haven’t found any scrapbook mags for a long time. I’d love to check yours out!

  19. Mary Holshouser January 30, 2015 at 11:34 am

As a card maker I enjoy looking at the pages and figuring out how I can incorporate the designs into my cards.

  20. Cheryl Sager January 30, 2015 at 11:36 am

I rip open the envelope and flip through the pages upon arrival. I then sit and slowly savor every word, every photo . . . ALL OF IT!! (and I love that I can turn the pages – – no digital for this girl!)

  21. Tracey Gallacher January 30, 2015 at 11:54 am

I love the inspiration, seeing the new products and some ideas on how to use them!

  22. Debbie Lou January 30, 2015 at 11:57 am

Inspiration is my number 1 pick. Love the DIY too!

  23. Sue D January 30, 2015 at 11:59 am

My fave part is all the creative inspiration.

  24. theCook January 30, 2015 at 12:16 pm

I love the inspiration. Love going through the pages quickly, picking up layouts and colors, then diving into on specific page for the actual text, especially when there are tutorials.

  25. Tricia January 30, 2015 at 12:27 pm

I love all the different techniques. People are so creative and I love to look at all the layouts etc.

  26. Kailash January 30, 2015 at 12:39 pm

The magazine has the inspiration for my creative juices to flow. The articles on different techniques, ideas are also just so helpful:-). Thanks for sharing projects that are simply amazing!!!

  27. Margaret Roberts January 30, 2015 at 12:49 pm

I’ve just started my subscription and haven’t received any issues yet, but I know I will love each and every part! Just to hold a real print magazine in my hands and look at the gorgeous pictures will be so much inspiration. I know I could have it for free online, but – call me old-fashioned – I need the real thing!

  28. Vicki Smith January 30, 2015 at 1:05 pm

I’ve never had the pleasure of receiving a copy of your magazine as I’m on a tight budget but since magazines have been my addiction for a LONG time I would love to win this prize and experience it.

  29. Sandy Lewis January 30, 2015 at 1:09 pm

I love the 3 T’s. My favorite of everything is the 3 designers that use the same products to make a layout. I learn so much and am inspired when I read your magazine. Thank you for publishing – thank you for making it free online and thank you for the chance to win!

  30. cindy r January 30, 2015 at 1:16 pm

Just really love to unplug and hold the magazine and turn pages, oohing and aahing…..

  31. debra January 30, 2015 at 1:17 pm

I quickly peruse the mag then I go back slowly and mark up for scrapbook and embellishment ideas, including cards.

  32. Laura Turcotte January 30, 2015 at 1:29 pm

I am so happy to read this post! I love your magazine, and I love the fact is an actual print/paper mag! So rare these days!
Congrats on being 9!!!! Love SCT!

  33. bernice January 30, 2015 at 1:32 pm

  35. bunnyfreak January 30, 2015 at 1:48 pm

Never had a paper copy. Love the sketches.

  36. Tona January 30, 2015 at 1:57 pm

I love learning about new techniques & just get all around inspired while reading the magazine. Up to this point I have only looked at the magazine digitally. I would love to be able to hold one in my hands.

  37. Nancy L. January 30, 2015 at 1:59 pm

When I get a chance to purchase it, it’s EVERYTHING! Love the props you use!

  38. Christine Kiehl January 30, 2015 at 2:01 pm

Wow! So many “likes” and almost NINE! Congrats! Love all the inspiring shares, projects and crafters! And of course the PRINT magazine!!

  39. Pia Larsen January 30, 2015 at 2:05 pm

New trends are what I find most interesting in your wonderful Magazine

  40. Lauri January 30, 2015 at 2:10 pm

My favourite things are the bonus card stitches, the Colour Suite, and anything by Ali Edwards. It’s wonderful that I can access this magazine online anytime I want, love that convenience.

  41. Cammi Engelhard January 30, 2015 at 2:20 pm

I have been a scrapbooker and card maker for years, and subscribed to many magazines, all who went away. I LOVE your magazine, and fall even more in love every time your print issue arrives. To me, the best way to find inspiration is to leaf through my past issues. Please keep publishing your magazine and mailing it to us!

  42. D Brown January 30, 2015 at 2:22 pm

I love the free cut files and tips/tricks of using products and tools. I also enjoy the “me” time that I take to flip through the pages…sometimes I’m not even reading….just feeling that great paper and sipping my tea.
My least favorite part is that I get caught up reading the journalling on scrapbook pages…lol

  43. terriavidreader January 30, 2015 at 2:37 pm

I love all the tutorials and directions to make my own. Thanks for a chance to win too.

  44. Cheryl January 30, 2015 at 2:47 pm

I actually just love the fact that the magazine is Canadian and therefore the products are ones I can actually purchase in Canada.

  45. Velma Garcia January 30, 2015 at 2:48 pm

I love going back to print magazines time and time again for inspiration. I have some craft magazines from the 1970’s that I still look at for ideas and inspiration!

  46. RPomeroy January 30, 2015 at 2:57 pm

I love that you are still a print magazine. I find so much more inspiration in a paper product than in an image on my computer. I don’t know what the difference is, but I can tell that I am more inspired by paper than pixels. I am also glad that I can find you online, too.

  47. Lynne G January 30, 2015 at 2:58 pm

Always love your magazine and look forward to scraplifting all the amazing ideas inside. Would love to win a paper copy!!!!!! Thanks for the chance to win and I’m sure you will reach 100, 000 followers soon and what a triumph that is!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!

  48. Colleen Halpern January 30, 2015 at 3:22 pm

I love seeing new products. I love the techniques. I love, love, love all the cards! I sure would like to see how the insides of the cards were finished.

  49. Lynn Ekstrom January 30, 2015 at 3:25 pm

I love the whole thing from the PAPER and ink to the inspiration! I read the magazine from cover to cover and can’t wait for each new issue. My only wish is that the magazine was printed more often. I have cancelled subscriptions that went digital only. Keep up the good work and thanks for a great read!

  50. Jean Rood January 30, 2015 at 3:30 pm

I just love the fact that it is still printed! I really do not like digital magazines and books. It is too hard to pick up on a moments notice and look at a single article or too and I do not want to always have to be connected to electronics! Your designers are great too!

  51. Marie Sellers January 30, 2015 at 3:41 pm

Your magazine inspires me. There are not too many magazines like yours around anymore. Love your ideas for greeting cards.

  52. Dorothy January 30, 2015 at 3:43 pm

Mm what do I like about your magazine. 1) the creative how tos. 2) learning about new products coming in the market. They keep me in the know to help others. 3) announcing new upcoming events like crops or ScraoFest. 4) it is great going to an event and feeling you already know the person from reading articles or from the editor, etc. I love the photos and links also. So keep doing what you are doing and I will continue to spread the word of how great your magazine is for me. Tks and blessings.

  53. Nina Oelke January 30, 2015 at 3:54 pm

I love the layouts and cards. And yes the magazine so inspires me 🙂

  54. Violet January 30, 2015 at 4:05 pm

I really like the cover and the other possible covers that you feature as well as all the different techniques and layouts. I only do multiple photo layouts so I like those the best. I use your page maps a lot when I do scrapbooking.

  55. Charlotte January 30, 2015 at 4:08 pm

I am new to the scrapbook and card crafts and I do enyoy your magazine but quite frankly I would prefer a paper issue. I didn’t know until just now that you even had paper… you are now on my to do list…order the paper issue!!!!!! Can’t wait to see the real thing!!!
    Thanks soooooo much!!!!

  56. Geraldine Sawin January 30, 2015 at 4:13 pm

I love the techniques. Clear, concise and easy to follow. Congratulations on year nine!

  57. Gail L. January 30, 2015 at 4:14 pm

This is great! I love everything about the magazine!
I love looking for new product & techniques!

  58. Helen Van Daalen January 30, 2015 at 4:32 pm

I love holding the physical magazine. There is something comforting about it. But when I read the digital version I like the reader’s gallery.

  59. Roxanne January 30, 2015 at 4:41 pm

I love the same supplies given to different crafters….and the vastly different, but beautiful layouts that are created!

  60. Valerie W January 30, 2015 at 4:42 pm

Inspiration is number 1, but like the quality of paper that the magazine printed on.

  61. Deepa Lakshman January 30, 2015 at 5:01 pm

I love looking at all the inspiration, the techniques, the simple, better and grand pages that are done with the same pictures. There is always a lot of eye candy to see and it is always better to have a print in hand to enjoy everything.

  62. Krista January 30, 2015 at 5:13 pm

I just love looking at all the inspiring artwork. The how-tos are helpful, too.

  63. Mendi Yoshikawa January 30, 2015 at 5:18 pm

I love everything about your issues, but I think the thing I love most is the nice crisp pages and the fact that I can get hardcopies to hold in my hands. 🙂

  64. Jean marmo January 30, 2015 at 5:31 pm

Congrats on all of your success! I love the inspiration! I can look at designs and find different techniques that help me with my layouts.

  65. Karen Lingel January 30, 2015 at 6:02 pm

I like the articles that show how you can improve layouts with a little more time or embellishments. I can usually get myself to a “basic” level, but I’d really like my layouts to be “wow” rather than “fine”. That’s where I need help.
Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  66. Lindarub January 30, 2015 at 6:34 pm

Love The Samples of cards and the techniques.

  67. Laurie B. January 30, 2015 at 6:44 pm

I love seeing all the new product available, and the technique articles. I learn so much!

  72. Rebecca Daly January 30, 2015 at 10:08 pm

love the inspiration, love looking through and going back later (sometimes months and years later) to gain a new perspective , also learning new techniques

  73. Denise January 30, 2015 at 10:25 pm

I have never had a copy of the print magazine (though I would ABSOLUTELY love to have one!), but I follow you on FB and love all the great things you share. They give me great ideas and are a joy to see!

  74. D January 30, 2015 at 10:27 pm

Techniques and new products You guys are the best x

  75. Janet January 30, 2015 at 10:32 pm

I love that it is a magazine. I can fold back the cover, set in on my desk and create without distractions of being online.I can easily re-find inspiration instead of getting bogged down in the glut of cyber space.

  76. Dawn Skene January 30, 2015 at 11:03 pm

I love looking at all of the great projects! They give me so many great ideas and new ways of using products.

  77. Regina Furman January 30, 2015 at 11:06 pm

I love the card sketches, and seeing how you use all the different embellishments. You always seem to have an “out of the box” use for things!

  78. Cheryl January 30, 2015 at 11:14 pm

I love the whole magazine and can’t wait to sit down to read it cover to cover. When I see the white magazine in the mail I am really excited and if I am not home when it comes my husband calls me at work to tell me. And, YES, it is great quality paper etc. Love it soooo much.

  79. Kelly Sasman January 30, 2015 at 11:16 pm

My fav part of the magazine is that I can bend th corner of ever page that has something on it that I want to try, buy or case. Then I can pour over it again and again and try, buy or case when ever I want because I save my magazines forever!

  80. Debbie Meyer January 30, 2015 at 11:36 pm

    Seeing the different techniques.

  81. Rebecca Bodine January 30, 2015 at 11:44 pm

  83. Indy January 31, 2015 at 12:30 am

I am new to your blog and haven’t had a paper copy in my hands! Going to have to change that as I love having an actual magazine in hands to look through (be inspired) over and over again!

  84. Mel January 31, 2015 at 12:59 am

It’s so nice that there is still a print magazine out there…I am so sad when I hear another one is gone! Your colour suite is definitely the article I look forward to the most. Keep the inspiration coming!

  88. Pat Zukowski-Address is 3000-35 st Ponoka AB T4J1A7 January 31, 2015 at 1:52 am

    I love to see all the new products and have the magazine to follow up on them whenever I want to. Also love the projects to get ideas and inspiration from . The paper quality is great and I keep the old copies as well to look back for retro ideas. Wish there was a Scrapfest or Cretiv Festival in Edmonton or Calgary coming this spring .{ if there is one scheduled — I have not heard about it yet.}

  89. Sandy Clinton January 31, 2015 at 2:10 am

My fave part has always been the 3 t’s.

  93. Christine Kosmak January 31, 2015 at 3:21 am

I actually can’t answer that question as I don’t have any copies of your mag!! Sad to say, but unfortunately both newsagents where I live closed down a couple of years ago!! Also because of severe health problems and stays in hospital over the last 18 months and being on crutches for a few months, meant that I couldn’t travel far and only then by taxi!! Just lucky my doctor filled in forms so I got a half price taxi card!! Would love to be able to sit and read through a copy though! Then I could answer the question!!!

  94. Stephanie G January 31, 2015 at 4:28 am

    I love everything about it!

  95. Lee January 31, 2015 at 6:50 am

    I love sketches and techniques!!

  96. Diane W January 31, 2015 at 7:19 am

There isn’t a page I don’t enjoy. I can sit with my cup of tea and peruse each page dreaming of all the scrapbook pages, cards, home decor I would love to create. A girl can dream, can’t she!

  121. Jenn Zawadzki January 31, 2015 at 11:05 pm

What a great giveaway. I can’t pick just one thing I love about SCT. I lOVE the same idea shown 3 different ways. I love the passion and artistic ways of the staff. The new products and companies advertised in the magazine. I’ll leave it at that but I can keep going on.

  125. Peg Bagg February 1, 2015 at 1:58 am

I have loved magazines all my life. Mom and Grandmother too. Having a hard copy of your Scrapbook & Cards on hand is a great way to learn, copy or lift a design/concept. I like computers, but when I’m creating, there’s no real room in my work space and it’s distracting. Having the magazine, I can lay it near me, pull out a page, lay it on my lap (which is part of my workspace 🙂 Thanks for the op to win a copy of your magazine!

  126. Linda Tagg February 1, 2015 at 2:04 am

Truly, the whole magazine – from cover to cover – makes me happy! It’s brimming with beautiful colours, fantastic products, amazing creativity from talented designers, and inspiration galore. Thanks to you, Catherine, and your team and the generous suppliers for making sure we always have a print magazine to inspire us to have fun documenting our memories and trying new techniques along the way!

  129. Shelley P February 1, 2015 at 3:44 pm

It is hard to pick one thing as I love very page of the magazine. If I had to narrow it down, I favour the sketches, layouts, and the DIY tricks. Here’s to 9 years and many more….Happy Birthday!

  130. SueB of Blondin Blogs February 1, 2015 at 4:25 pm

can’t limit it to just one thing; i love the in-depth review of new products, the different takes on the same challenges/sketches, and the basic/intermediate/advanced takes on sketches! i usually start with a quick preview look, then go back and really check out the different articles. keep up the good work!

  131. April W February 1, 2015 at 7:24 pm

I love the smell of it lol! I know that may seem weird but I’m a reader at heart and nothing beats the smell of a new magazine or book in my hands. 🙂

  137. Mary February 2, 2015 at 3:50 pm

I love that it is a print magazine on fine quality paper and comes in an envelope so it is clean. I sit down with it and savor every page. I find so many ideas that I want to use immediately and mark them with sticky notes. The magazine then stays on my desk or packed in my crop bag ready to use. Please keep printing this magazine and don’t go to solely digital.

  138. Casandra Bennett February 2, 2015 at 6:52 pm
