It’s day four of our Spring Issue Challenge Week, and we are excited to welcome guest designer Sarah Kee to introduce your final challenge! Do you have border punches still in your stash? Well, break them out because Sarah is going to inspire you to create something fantastic today! Let’s take a look!

Hello, everyone! It’s me Sarah over at @redoaklines, and I’m thrilled to be one of the guest designers for the Spring Issue Challenge Week! For today’s blog post, I’m excited to be sharing a 12 x 12-inch layout using the Our Love Song collection by Bella Blvd in parallel with border punches, a tool that many of us paper crafters already have in our stash!

Border punches are a fun and easy way to add interest and texture to a scrapbook layout. Here are some tips on how to get the most out of your border punches:

1. Choose the right border punch for your project. There are many different types of border punches available, from simple scallops and dots to more intricate designs like flowers and lace. Choose a punch that complements the style of your project. For this layout, I punched out an assortment of decorative edges to go along with the bright, colorful Bella Blvd patterned papers.

2. Use contrasting paper. To make the decorative edge from the border punch stand out, use paper that contrasts with your background. For example, on this layout, I used white cardstock for my background. To make my decorative edges stand out, I used bright, contrasting paper to make the colors stick out from the rest of my layout.

3. Layer the decorative borders. For added interest, layer the borders on top of each other. You can use the same punch or an assortment of punches with different papers to help change up your design.

4. Add embellishments on or around the borders. To complete the look of your project, feel free to add coordinating embellishments such as stickers, die-cuts, and chipboard pieces to tie everything together. For this layout, I scattered various embellishments from the Our Love Song Embellishment Bundle from Bella Blvd around the decorative borders.

Overall, border punches are a fantastic way to add a touch of creativity to your projects! Try out different punches to find which one works best for your style. Don’t forget to use various papers and embellishments with those border punches to create different looks on your projects. Let’s challenge ourselves to dust off those border punches and get use of these tools! Thank you so much for having me as a guest designer, SCT!

Hi, I’m Sarah! I’m located in the SF Bay Area in Northern California. I started scrapbooking over 15 years ago, and I’ve been in and out of the industry designing for various manufacturers. I’m a former scrapbook store owner, but I still use memory keeping as a creative outlet and stress relief. In my spare time, I love spending time with my spouse, our children, and our two miniature schnauzers. I most especially love to travel, play at the beach, hike, run, garden, and cuddle up with a book in hand.
