Welcome back to our Spring Issue Challenge Week, friends! Today we’re going to put you in the mood… to create! Mindy Eggen is hosting our mood board challenge, and we think you’re going to love it! Let’s get to your next challenge!

Hey friends! It’s Mindy here with you today to share inspiration using a mood board.

Have you used a mood board before? They are a fun way to get your mojo started if you are feeling stuck. There is no right or wrong way to use them either. It’s however you are feeling inspired by the picture whether it be the aesthetic of the image, the colors, or maybe one of the images reminds you of a product in your stash. However it inspires you, run with it!

When I first saw the mood board, what stood out to me were the coral and blue colors. I immediately knew I wanted to die-cut flowers using these colors.

Supplies | Spellbinders: In Bloom etched dies from Metamorphosis with Simon Hurley, Making Me Smile Sentiments Hot Foil plate, Stained Glass Window etched dies from Metamorphosis with Simon Hurley, Glimmer Hot Foil System, Platinum 6 die cut machine, foam squares, Gold Glimmer foil; Gina K Designs: Connect glue, fine tip bottles; Concord & 9th: Grapefruit, Sorbet, Stardust, Aqua Sky, Oceanside, Peacock, Parsley, Evergreen cardstock; Honey Bee Stamps: Pastel Pearl stickers

When I think of die-cutting flowers, I think of Spellbinders. They have amazing floral dies and backgrounds that coordinate nicely with them. From my stash, I pulled out the In Blooms set, Stained Glass Window for a background, and Making Me Smile Sentiments hot foil plate.

I wanted the colors to be the focal point of the card, so I die-cut the Stained Glass Window twice from white cardstock and layered them together with Connect glue that I keep in a fine-tip bottle. Then, I added this to an A2-sized white panel of cardstock. I love using background dies as subtle interest to a card front.

Next, I die-cut my flowers from the In Bloom collection. I used a variety of cardstock from Concord & 9th including Grapefruit, Sorbet, Stardust, Aqua Sky, Oceanside, Peacock, Parsley, and Evergreen. I layered these pieces together with my liquid glue and added them to the front of the card with foam squares.

Because my card is on the soft and elegant side, I didn’t want my sentiment to overpower my image. I hot foiled the Making Me Smile Sentiments from Gold Glimmer foil with the Glimmer system and Platinum 6 machine. This set is great because you can foil all the sentiments at the same time and the coordinating die cuts them all out at once. I can pick out the one that fits my card the best, and save the others for future cards. This is especially helpful to me because I have such a small area to work in that now I don’t have to dig out my hot foil machine for just one sentiment later on. I added the sentiment overlapping the flowers just slightly and popped it up with foam squares to match the height of the flowers.

My finishing touch was to add beautiful pearls from the Pastel Pearl Stickers from Honey Bee Stamps. I lucked out that they matched my colors perfectly.

I hope you give this mood board a try! I’m certainly saving this picture to use again. Thanks for spending time with me today and see you again soon!
