Hi everyone. It’s Dana Joy, the creator behind Got Joy Creations and I’m thrilled to be on the Scrapbook and Cards blog with you! Today I’m featuring a beautiful spring card using products from my collaboration line with Hero Arts. The Unity collection is a new line sharing diversity and inclusion in the crafting community. Creating in an all-inclusive community allows us to engage with products that we may not be familiar with and helps us explore new and creative ways of crafting.

I started out my creative process by choosing a card sketch from the Scrapbook & Cards Today Winter 2020 Issue to spark my idea. No matter the season, these sketches can be adapted to work for any card creation. Here’s the sketch I worked with:

And here is my finished card:

Supplies: Cardstock: Hero Arts Paradise Cardstock, Hero Arts Dove White Side Folding Cards, Concord & 9th Neutrals Glitter Paper Pack  Stamps: Hero Arts Color Layering Flower Power Combo, Hero Arts Zen Messages, Hero Arts Love Is Love Bold Prints, Hero Arts Bursting With Love Bold Prints; Hero Arts Ink: Bubble Gum, Soft Pool, Butter Bar, Intense Black, Dove White, Embossing Ink; Embossing Powder: Hero Arts White Detail Embossing Powder; Embellishments: Trinity Stamps Gorgeous Gold Baubles; Adhesive: Hero Arts Precision Glue, iCraft 3D Double-sided Foam Strips; Other: Misti Stamping Tool

To begin my card design I always gather my supplies beforehand so I know my color palette. This keeps my design cohesive and colorful. My focal image today is the Color Layering Flower Power Combo image. Starting first with the outline image of the flower hair, I stamped the image in Hero Arts Intense Black ink. Next, I lined up the first flower layer and stamped that in Hero Arts Bubble Gum ink. Skipping the next flower layer, I used the third layer to finish off my flowers by stamping in Hero Arts Butter Bar ink. Now it was time to add the outline layer of the face with Hero Arts Intense Black Ink. Since I used Copic markers to color my skin tone, the base face layer was not used in today’s card. I used the coordinating frame cut included in the bundle and die cut in my image.

Now it was time to work on my background. Using two original size Misti stamping tools, I stamped the Love Is Love Bold Prints and the Bursting With Love Bold Prints onto Hero Arts Dove Cardstock using several colorful inks. Starting with the Hero Arts Soft Pool Ink, I stamped a section of each background. Next, I moved on to the Hero Arts Butter Bar ink, making sure to overlap my first area to get a nice gradient blend of color. I repeated the same process, overlapping my ink by using the Hero Arts Bubble Gum Ink to finish the background panels. I trimmed these panels in half to create a split design for my card, just like you can see in the sketch.

Let’s put the card together. I adhered Hero Arts Paradise cardstock onto a Hero Arts Dove White Side Folding Card. I trimmed down my colorful panels to create an opening between them when they are placed on the card base. For added sparkle, I adhered a strip of Concord and 9th glitter cardstock to the inside of each designed panel. Next, I adhered my beautiful Flower Power image on to the center of the card with double-sided foam strips. I added a stamped sentiment from the Hero Arts Zen Message stamp set onto Hero Arts Paradisae cardstock and heat set it with embossing ink and detail white embossing powder. To carry the glitter factor, I added strips of glitter paper to the sentiment as well.  Finishing off my card, I added a few gold baubles with Hero Arts precision glue.

Thanks for joining me on the blog today! I hope you are inspired to create something beautiful using this sketch and expand your creativity by including products using the Unity collection for Hero Arts. Diversity and inclusion in your crafting space can be uplifting and life-changing. Have a great day!

Hi, I’m Dana. I’m the creator behind Got Joy Creations. Crafting is my happy place where I share my take on card making and card design. Creating has been a personal passion that I loved for almost my entire life. Having the opportunity to work with amazing craft companies, creative teams and recently having a collaboration line with Hero Arts called the Unity Collection has been a dream come true. I’m married to my high school sweetheart and we have two grown children and one adorable Schnoodle puppy. We live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. When I’m not crafting, you’ll find me with a cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee in one hand and a sprinkle donut in the other. I also enjoy wine and craft beer tastings, decorating my home, hanging with my friends and spending quality time with my hubby!
