Welcome to the blog today, friends! Our Spring 2023 issue releases this Friday, which means that our team and special guests are ready to challenge and inspire you with fun challenges and beautiful projects! Let’s kick things off with a sketch challenge, shall we?

Hello, SCT friends! It’s Wendy Sue with you today sharing a unique take on one of the PageMaps sketches from the Winter 2022 issue! Here’s a look at the sketch I used:

The sketch can be found on page 30 of the Winter 2022 issue; yes, it is a card sketch!

A few weeks ago, I shared a set of birthday cards, inspired by a layout in this same issue (you can read more about it HERE on the SCT blog). Today, I thought it would be fun to show you how I like to do the reverse and use a card sketch to create a layout!

Supplies | Patterned paper, solid paper, ephemera die-cut pieces, stickers, enamel dots, metal dies: It’s Spring Time by Echo Park Paper; Cardstock: Carta Bella Paper; Letter Stickers: Fancy Pants Designs; Twine: May Arts

The square card design made for an easy adaptation to a 12 x 12-inch square layout! I added a few extra layers to the base of the page, and of course, I had to add some machine stitching around the edges because I LOVE machine stitching!

To create the nine design squares, I used stitched square metal dies from Echo Park Paper. I cut the squares from various patterned papers from Echo Park’s It’s Spring Time collection. Each square was then mounted on solid pink paper (the same as the base layer) to provide cohesiveness.

I treated each square as a mini canvas and used die-cuts, stickers, and photos to embellish each one to make them all unique!

Even though the sketch is featured in the winter issue (the snowflakes are a dead giveaway), I loved using this sketch as a starting point to create a spring page featuring some Mother’s Day with my cute kiddos!

Don’t be afraid to think outside the box! If you see a sketch or idea that inspires you, try to adapt it to your next project, regardless of the season or even the project type!

Now it’s your turn—I can’t wait to see what you create with this sketch!
