Stampin’ Up! Inspiration Saturday…and a giveaway!

Stampin’ Up! Inspiration Saturday…and a giveaway!

Hello and welcome to Stampin' Up! Inspiration Saturday friends!  Watching the trends in papercrafting is an amazingly wild ride.  For a few years we’ll see projects full of lace and flowers, and then suddenly it’s bold and bright geometric fun.  It’s great to see the styles shift and evolve over time.  The Kaleidoscope Suite from Stampin’ Up! is bold, funky, totally on trend, and reminiscent of 80’s and 90’s fashion – in a good way!

Sharing their love of this electric and eclectic suite of products are Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators Allison Okamitsu from Calgary, AB and Meghan Nishi.

Let’s see what Allison created with this fabulous suite!

  1 - Card Envelope - Allison Okamitsu

Here’s what Allison had to say about her projects:

“I am always looking for ways to use my stamps in new and exciting ways to showcase their versatility, and the Perfect Pennants stamp set is perfect for this.  Just because a stamp set is composed in a certain way doesn’t mean that’s the way you need to use it.  I love stamping a selection of sentiments in a variety of colours, cutting them apart, and then piecing them together in a collage style to create something new.  You really get the most out of your stamp sets this way.”

  2 - Scrapbook Page - Allison Okamitsu

“I have collected coffee mugs for years.  I love them.  I think it’s important when we are scrapbooking to include pages of things like our beloved collections, whether it’s coffee mugs or antique dolls.  What we treasure is part of our story, so don’t forget to include what’s special to you.  I used so many elements of the Kaleidoscope Suite to create this page, but I think the real showstopper is the addition of the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.  It’s a natural addition to this suite when creating.”

4 - Cassette Tape Note Cards - Allison Okamitsu

“The Kaleidoscope designer paper really screamed retro 80’s and 90’s to me, and what’s more retro than mixed tapes!?  Does anyone else remember sitting in front of the radio trying to record your favourite songs at just the right moment?  Wow, I’m dating myself with that one!  To create these fun cassettes I used an electronic cutter and the All Time Fave Photobook Download for My Digital Studio to cut the designer paper, and then it was just a simple cut and paste of the different sentiments in the Perfect Pennants stamp set to create my mixed tape titles.”

8 - Running Shoe Gift Bag - Allison Okamitsu

“Keeping with the retro vibe I decided to create an old school running shoe that could be used as a gift bag.  This style of shoe has actually made a comeback in recent years.  It’s funny to see fashion come full circle.  If they sold these with the patterns of the Kaleidoscope Designer Paper I would totally get a pair.  I especially love the laces made with the Bermuda Bay Taffeta Ribbon.”

  3 - Smartphone Card - Allison Okamitsu

“Last but not least, old school meets new school with this fun smartphone card.  The Word Bubbles Framelits are perfect for creating little text bubbles to hold images and sentiments from the Perfect Pennants stamp set to create a conversation.  Stamping in Crushed Curry, Strawberry Slush, and Bermuda Bay really make this convo POP.”

Thank you Allison for sharing!

The second set of projects we have for you today were made by Meghan Nishi from Victoria, BC!

9 - Journal -Meghan Griffiths

Here’s what Meghan had to say about her projects:

“In University I kept dozens of visual journals for my artistic processes and note-taking and I have carried this over into my stamping. I love to jot down notes and designs and I love to be able to do it by hand. These journals look much more beautiful and fun when decorated of course! I love layering and the Banners Framelits allow for so many easy ways to add dimension and interest to a project using this technique. Incorporating ribbon into the border collage is a way to add dimension while maintaining the simplicity and balance of the design.”

  10 - Scrapbook Page1 - Meghan Griffiths

“I have been meaning to scrapbook this beautiful March day at the beach with my daughter from last year for so long. I feel that the bright colours and bold patterns of the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper work so well with the simple black and white candid photos. I have an arrangement of square photographs from my wedding in our dining room that inspired the layout for this project. I kept details relatively simple so that the beautiful designer paper stands out.”

  12 - Tag - Meghan Griffiths

“This was the most tedious project I created, (and the smallest, oh the irony). It took what felt like forever to line up all of the hexagons in a pattern that worked and balanced the whisper white background before adhering them down. This could be a stunning background for a scrapbook page, card or other large project for someone willing to invest the time, this designer paper is just so versatile!”

  13 - Make a wish card - Meghan Griffiths

“I have to be honest, I hardly ever pull out Crushed Curry for anything, but after working with it here I will have to do so more often.  It looks gorgeous with Bermuda Bay and Strawberry Slush. I have 'stamped off' the stars onto the background to make them softer and add detail while letting the greeting remain the focus. The border of the designer series paper is done with a piece of scrap strawberry slush that I cut with the Hexagon Hive Thinlit and then trimmed to make an edgy statement.”

  15 - Hello card - Meghan Griffiths

“I really wanted to do something bold and yet soft with the Hexagon Hive Thinlit die here. Bermuda Bay and Strawberry Slush compliment each other so well and the Whisper White keeps it fresh and clean. The greeting stands out in Basic Black and is anchored by one of the patterned border style stamps from Perfect Pennants here. I have used dimensionals to create depth, popping the whisper white hexagons up while the bermuda bay of the designer series paper sinks deep into the cut out hexagon images made by the die.”
