Hello SCT friends! It’s Latisha here with you today with a few tips and tricks on using stencils. A lot of questions that I see in the comments of posts when it comes to stencils are how to get a clean impression and what glitter paste is. I am going to take you step-by-step on how I made this fun and colourful holiday card:

Supplies | Ink: Close to My Heart; Stamps: Lawn Fawn, Taylored Expressions; Adhesive: Therm O Web, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Stencils: Taylored Expressions; Cardstock: Lawn Fawn; Blending brushes: Taylored Expressions; Glitter gel: Therm O Web, Nuvo

When working with stencils or ink blending, having everything pulled out and ready to go will help the process go smoothly. Grab inks, blending brushes, purple tape, pixie spray, stencils, and glitter gel.

Using purple tape, adhere the card base down to a blending surface. Spray the Pixie Spray onto the back of the stencil and adhere the stencil over the cardbase. Some of you might be asking, “What is Pixie Spray?” Pixie Spray is made by Therm O Web, and is a light-tack, repositionable adhesive spray made for stencils. It makes it so your stencil does not move while ink blending. If you cannot find Pixie Spray, Therm O Web also makes purple tape that will hold your stencils nicely as well. The Pixie Spray just works a little better.

This is a rainbow ink blended snowflake background, so I worked in a rainbow order. In between inks, wipe the stencil off so the ink does not cross-contaminate the brushes.

For this card, I used a set of 3 stencils that work together. As you can see on this second stencil from top to bottom I am working in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple order.

Once the panel of the card is stenciled, this is when you add Glitz Glitter Gel. Lay the stencil on the card front and match the stencil to the blended image. Using a scraper tool, add Glitter Gel over the stencil and evenly cover the openings of the stencil. Once the Glitter Gel is evenly coated, gently remove the stencil. On the snowflakes that I didn’t put glitter gel onto, I used Nuvo dimensional clear gel.

I stamped the sentiment onto a white die-cut and adhered to the card front using foam adhesive. A string of stamped, colored, and die-cut lights were added to the top of the card and then embellished with twine.

I hope you all learned something new and are excited to play with the stencils in your stash!
