Hi SCT friends, it’s Mari Clarke here with another project in our Tried, Trendy and True series! Today I am combining the cut file trend in scrapbooking with simple mixed media and heritage photos!

Supplies | Mixed-media cardstock: Vicki Boutin Foundations Paper; Patterned paper, die cuts, stickers; Simple Stories Simple Vintage Ancestry collection; Ink: Gina K: Ocean Mist, Honey Mustard, Dark Sage, Faded Brick; Spray ink; Heidi Swapp Gold Color Shine; Nuvo Shimmer Powder Atlantis Burst; Adhesive; Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Other: Black Acrylic Paint

I started by adding Gina K. inks to a piece of Vicki Boutin Foundations Paper to add subtle color to the background. The Starburst cut file from the Winter 2020 Issue created a perfect element for the background to frame my photos. It was cut from white cardstock and backed with patterned paper from the Simple Stories Simple Vintage Ancestry collection, which I also used to embellish my layout as well! I added a two sided-frame to my layout, as well as some sewing on the same side of the white paper for added texture.

You can watch me create this layout in my process video below, where you will see me demonstrate backing my cut file as well as including hidden journaling in a project!

Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I hope you’re inspired to combine these three tried, trendy and true elements on your next layout!
