Hello SCT friends, and Happy New Year! It’s Wendy Sue here, and I’m excited to share my very first project for 2021! One of my favorite techniques is super simple, but I’ve been doing it for years and I love it every time:  faux embossing! I love the look of embossing, but faux embossing has endless possibilities and it’s so easy! Here’s a look at what I’m talking about:

Supplies | Paper, stickers: Echo Park Paper Cupid & Co. collection; Dies: Echo Park Paper Faux-Stitched Heart dies

See the cute heart background? By placing die cut shapes on a background of the same color, it mimics the look of embossing, but it’s not! For these cards, I used a metal die to create the background shape, but you could also use punches, electronic shapes, or even hand-cut shapes! These fun Faux-Stitched Heart dies are from Echo Park Paper.

To create this look, simply cut the shapes and arrange them as desired on the background. I’m making cards today, but I also love creating fun and subtle backgrounds on layouts as well.

It’s that easy! The background is done – and this would be a cute card-front just as it is…but I wanted to add a few extra touches.

Before mounting the background piece onto a white card, I wrapped coordinating string around each piece and tied a bow.

I finished off each card by adding a sticker or printed die-cut to each card front. Today I’m using the Cupid & Co. collection by Echo Park Paper.

Have you ever tried this technique? If you haven’t, I hope you will give it a shot and see if you love it as much as I do! Thanks for stopping in today!!
