Happy World Card Making Day, my friends!

World Card Making Day is like Christmas for card makers, and you can bet I’m planning a card making marathon today. It’s fun to think that creators around the world are making and sharing!

I hope you’ve had the chance to check out our phenomenal fall issue! Once I have the issue in hand, I love to page through and see all of the beauty. It’s so inspiring.

In honor of World Card Making Day, I’m issuing you an “Inspired By” issue Challenge. I took the challenge to heart and really had a blast!

This amazing layout by Paige Evans appeared in the fall issue on page 22 in our 3Ts column. I always admire Paige’s happy and artistic designs, and I love that she often shares her cut files for free!

My plan was twofold in creating for this challenge:

  1. Use the free cut file that Paige provided to our readers. You can find this one (and many others!) HERE.
  2. Take a scrapbook design and use it to inspire a card design.

Supplies | Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper: Honey Bee Stamps; Stamp, ink, die, embossing powder: Simon Says Stamp; Enamel dots: Doodlebug Design, My Mind’s Eye, Simple Stories; Electronic cut file: Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine; Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L and Therm O Web

As a scrapbooker turned card maker, I’ve always been an advocate of finding inspiration in absolutely EVERY project. I think sometimes there’s a disconnect between card makers and scrapbookers (and vice versa), and there shouldn’t be! Those commanding cut files can be scaled down to fit on a card, and hey—FREE is always fun!

I set to work sizing the cut file to fit on an A2 card front and chose some pretty patterned papers from Honey Bee to fill the sections. Since it’s been a while since I used my electronic die cut machine, it took me a minute to figure out, but it was SO worth it!

Like Paige, I tilted the leaf and placed it on a jaunty angle. My sentiment is similar to the wild & free on her layout in a notched banner. I finished it off with some scattered enamel dots and hearts in Paige’s carefree style. I should do that more often!

Now the ball is in YOUR court. Find a layout or a free cut file in the fall issue and create a card inspired by it! I’d love to see what you create, so be sure to tag @susan.r.opel on Instagram when sharing!

PS – Make sure to visit the SCT blog on Monday as I’ll be sharing two more inspired by the fall issue cards!
