To continue our Winter Issue Challenge Week, we’re welcoming a second guest, Thanh Vo to the blog! Thanh creates the most beautiful planner pages and cards, and today she is taking on our mood board challenge to inspire us with one beautiful card design! Let’s take a look at what she has to share, and don’t forget to join in on the fun, too!

Hi friends! I’m so excited to be invited to participate in the Winter Issue Challenge Week on the SCT blog! Who wouldn’t be excited, this colour scheme inspiration is gorgeous—swoon!!!

Colour scheme by Design Seeds

My name is Thanh Vo and I recently became a new mama to a rambunctious son. When I do have the time to craft, I try my best to make it count! My theme of making it count relates to the card that I’m sharing using mostly stamps, dies, and inks from Pigment Craft Co.

Supplies | Stamps, dies, stencil: Pigment Craft Co Modern Poinsettia, Vintage Merry Christmas, Diagonal Stripe; Ink: Pigment Craft Co Fir, Eucalyptus, Himalayan, Rosewood, Concord & 9th Mushroom, Dove; Cardstock, Paper: Paper Trey Ink, Lawn Fawn Pearlescent Vellum, Hammermill, Stampin’ Up!; Adhesive: Tombow, Scrapbook Adhesives; Sequins: Pretty Pink Posh; Tools: Taylored Expressions blender brush, stamping platform or acrylic blocks

I love receiving handmade cards in the mail and displaying them (like many of you)! However, with the number of cards I receive during the holidays, I find that the regular A2 size handmade cards become lost amongst the holiday decor and I feel that handmade cards should get some front and centre attention. Going back to my sentiment about making it count: for the holiday season—go big and use larger elements on your card to make them stand out!

The images from the Modern Poinsettia make this card come together so easily and you can create so many different stunning combinations!

TIP: Don’t be afraid to cut out elements of stamped images to add depth and dimension to the image as I did on the bottom of the card to fill up the space.

I always try to do the more detailed work of creating first and then leave the playing (and adjusting) after in my cardmaking process. I started by stamping and die cutting all my images and sentiments first and then set them aside.

I stenciled the diagonally striped panel as I really wanted a subtle background, but didn’t want to overwhelm the main images.

TIP: The card size base I used is a slimline, but the stencil I used is 6 x 6-inch size. With a bit of patience and moving the stencil around, you can make a 6 x 6-inch size stencil work!

After I adhered my card panel layers down, I played around with the layout (that’s when the real fun begins) and of course, used dimensional foam squares to pop up that sentiment for added dimension. I added clear sequins for a bit of sparkle to complete the card.

Don’t forget the inside of the card, too! I stamped a couple of the images and the sentiment on a white panel and layered it. I do this for two reasons: It complements and ties the card in together nicely as well as adds layers to the back to distribute the weight of the card evenly.

Thank you so much for joining me today. I hope that I’ve given you a couple of takeaways for the next time you create. If you make a project inspired by this challenge, please tag SCT and me as we’d love to see what you create. Have a wonderful holiday season!
