Hey friends! This is Mindy with you! Happy World Cardmaking Day! What a great time to celebrate this passion (or obsession!) of ours.

I tend to stick to traditional colors when it comes to my projects, but I wanted to challenge myself a little for today’s card. I’m going to use non-traditional colors for my fall card project, although the more I researched on Pinterest for my color board, the more I’m wondering if it’s becoming traditional.

It’s fun to think outside of the box, stretch our creative muscles and play around with colors. I tend to gravitate towards browns, oranges, and yellows for my Fall colors. I found a color board on Pinterest that inspired me and the great thing is I didn’t follow it exactly. I took inspiration, used my color swatches of cardstock to match up what I could and came up with this palette.

Supplies | Gina K. Designs: Foliage Fillers Die, Ivory Cardstock, Liquid Glue, Foam Squares; Cardstock: Sea Glass, Peacock, Stardust, White , Black, Gold Glitter; Concord & 9th: Cardstock, Chevron Quilt Top Die, Friendly Florals; Pinkfresh Studio: Clear Drops – Iridescent

I die-cut the Foliage Fillers from Stardust, Sea Glass and Peacock cardstock. I already planned to create a wreath from this but it needed to be jazzed up a little so I brought in some gold glitter cardstock.

Creating the wreath without a guide was kind of tricky for me. That led me to creating a panel from white cardstock with the Chevron Quilt Top die and then die cutting a circle from the center. That was my guide to arranging the foliage.

Each piece is held down with some liquid glue, but only at the base of the die cut so it has a little “fluff” to it. I popped up the panel with foam squares and added to a cardstock base created from Ivory cardstock. It’s a very elegant look!

A pop of black is just what this card called for with the Friendly Florals sentiment word die. I couldn’t help but add embellishments, but didn’t want them to be distracting which brought me to the Iridescent Clear Drops.

I quite surprised myself with this project. Who knew I had it in me? I hope this color challenge has inspired you to create something with some non-traditional colors!
