Welcome back to our next World Cardmaking Day challenge here on the SCT blog! This hour is all about layers, and creative team member Victoria Calvin is here to introduce your next challenge, should you accept it! Let’s take a look!

Hello, friends! This is Victoria and I’m back with a fun card challenge in celebration of World Cardmaking Day! For this challenge, I created a layered card design using the A2 Curved Borders Die by Spellbinders. Layering is one of my favorite paper crafting techniques and today, I’m going to show you how to create a high-impact, layered design that is easy to make. This design can be replicated using a variety of border tools including border punches, dies, or an electronic cut file.

Supplies | Dies: Spellbinders A2 Curved Borders Die, Spellbinders Mini Blooms, and Sprigs Etched Dies; Cardstock: Spellbinders Onyx Color Essentials Cardstock; Embellishments: Spellbinders Color Essentials Gems – Aura AB; Die Cutting Machine: Platinum 6 Emboss and Die Cutting Machine; Glimmer Plates: Spellbinders Mini Everyday Sentiments Glimmer Plates; Card base: Tonic Studios Craft Perfect Autumn Maple Pearlescent Card 6×6, Adhesive: Bearly Art Glue

To begin, I trimmed three pieces of Spellbinders Onyx Color Essentials cardstock to 2.5 x 5.5 inches, 2.0 x 5.5 inches, and 1.5 by 5.5 inches, respectively. Next, I selected three dies from the A2 Curved Borders Etched Die set, each featuring a different design. Using the selected dies, I cut each design from the trimmed cardstock using a Spellbinders Platinum 6 Emboss and Die Cutting Machine

Next, I layered and adhered the curved bordered pieces to a 4.25 x 5.5-inch card panel, starting with the 2.5 x 5.5-inch piece, followed by the 2.0 x 5.5-inch and 1.5 x 5.5-inch border pieces. The black curved border pieces and the panel create a stunning layered tone-on-tone effect! TIP: This same design can be created using multiple colors of cardstock as well.

To add to this card design, I created two layered floral clusters using the Spellbinders Mini Blooms and Sprigs Etched Dies. The floral clusters provide tons of dimension and texture to this card project!

To complete the card, I made the “Hello, Sweet Friend” sentiment using the Spellbinders Mini Everyday Sentiments Glimmer Plates. I trimmed the sentiment and positioned it at the bottom right of the card panel. Lastly, I adhered the completed card panel to a top-folding landscape card base. Want to see how easily this card came together using Spellbinders products? Watch me create this layered card project live today at 4:30 pm Eastern on the SCT Facebook page.
