Well, friends, we hope that you’ve had an amazing and creative World Cardmaking Day, but in case you’re still looking for one more challenge to inspire you, we have you covered! Let’s find out what Dilay Nacar has up her sleeve, and don’t miss the exciting giveaway for her challenge, as well as the grand prize announcement at the bottom of the post!

Hello and happy World Cardmaking Day, SCT friends! It’s Dilay here. In honor of today, I have a fun paper weaving challenge for you to try on your next card project! Paper weaving is fun, easy, and a great way to use up those scraps that we all have lying around! Also, I’ve included a bonus card that showcases a fun variation—a “faux” weave. I will be combining a few of my favorite brands for these cards, and I’m excited to get started!

Supplies | Taylored Expressions Cardstock: Cherry Pop, Peaches ‘n Cream, Pineapple, Candy Corn, Granny Smith, Key Lime, Confetti Cake, Gumball, Plum Punch, Lavender Glaze, Fruit Punch, Strawberry Milkshake; LDRS Creative: 1/8″ A2 Background Strips Die, 1/4 A2 Background Strips Die, 1/2″ Stitched A2 Background Strips Die, Diamonds A2 Coverplate Die; Honey Bee Stamps: Lovely Layers Heart Vine Dies, Sealed With Love Stamp Set, Inside Kindness Sentiment Stamp Set; Adhesives: iCraft Easy-Tear Tape, Scrapbook Adhesives Thin 3D Foam Squares, iCraft UltraBond Clear Adhesive

First things first: creating the strips! For this step, you can use leftover cardstock, or, if you’re like me and never have enough colorful strips on hand, die-cut a bunch! Here, I cut multiple colors of cardstock from Taylored Expressions premium cardstock with the 1/8″ and 1/4″ A2 Background Strips dies from LDRS Creative

Now onto the base! For this step, I created a window by die-cutting the center of an A2-sized card base with the LDRS Creative Diamonds A2 Coverplate Die. I added double-sided adhesive to the back and adhered 1/4” strips in rainbow order, then wove in 1/8” strips, alternating each row. Once finished, I secured all the strips with more adhesive, trimmed off the excess, and adhered them onto an A2-sized card base.

You can stop here and finish by adding a sentiment, but I wanted to try something fun with the background. I die-cut the LDRS Creative Diamonds A2 Coverplate Die and adhered it to the base, then inlaid each of the negative die cuts with foam adhesive. To finish, I added a heat embossed sentiment and die-cut leaves!

I also created a bonus card! I began by die-cutting the same cover plate (this time leaving the center solid), then adhered each of the strips in different directions, rotating each opening. For this card, I also used LDRS Creative’s 1/2″ Stitched A2 Background Strips Die. I secured the strips, cut off the excess, then mounted them onto a card base. Before adding the leaves and sentiment, I die-cut an additional diamond and adhered it to the center using foam tape to add dimension and provide a space to tuck in the leaves!

I hope you enjoyed today’s cards and will try this challenge for a chance to win a fabulous prize! I can’t wait to see what you create!
