Welcome to our World Cardmaking 2022 event! We are kicking off this wonderful day bright and early, but we plan to be here with you all day, friends! Let’s take a look at the schedules:

Be sure to set all of your alarms so that you don’t miss out on any of the fun! We’re kicking off the day with a simple challenge hosted by our friend Jenn Shurkus, who is using the cutest products from our friends at Lawn Fawn. Let’s get this party started!

……………………

Hello everyone! It’s Jenn Shurkus here and I am wicked excited to be hosting the first challenge for World Cardmaking Day here on the SCT blog!

My challenge is to use stencils on a card and I have a fun card I created, as well as some creative ways to use stencils to share with you! Let’s go!

For this card, I started by using the moon mask included in the Nighttime Sky Stencil and adhered it to a piece of Distress White Heavystock cut to 4.25” x 5.5” with some removable adhesive. I then lightly ink blended Seedless Preserves Distress Ink, then using Lawn Fawn’s Starry Sky Stencil, I stenciled in the design using a heavier hand with Seedless Preserves Distress Ink, so that it is bold and stands out on top of the other ink blending.

Also with this stencil, I only ink blended over some of it so that the design sort of fades off into the distance.

TIP: Anytime I am using stencils, I also use the Wendy Vecchi Stay-tion, a magnetic board with a grid so that it will hold my stencil in place while ink blending. I can quickly change stencils and move the stencil by just moving the strong magnets.

Next, I took the moon mask away and replaced it with the moon stencil, this way I can fill the moon in with some color.  I layered Squeezed Lemonade and Hickory Smoke Distress Ink by lightly ink blending one over the other. I went a bit darker in color along the right edge.

I then used the part of the stencil to add in the moon details/craters, using the same Distress Colors, just ink blending a heavier color to make it darker.

TIP: Whenever I am using a stencil that has many different elements on it, I use small sticky notes to cover the elements that I don’t want to accidentally ink blend into.

I then added clouds to my background using the same Nighttime Sky Stencil, and Lawn Fawn Yeti Pigment Ink, which is a white pigment ink. To apply this, I used an ink blending tool and foam.

To finish off this background, I die cut it with the largest stitched rectangle from the Lawn Fawn Outside In Stitched Rectangle set. I also splattered some white gold paint from the Gansai Tambi Starry Colors.

I then stamped, colored with Copics, and die cut out images from Lawn Fawn’s Purrfectly Wicked and Booyah stamp sets. I die cut the word “wicked” with Olivers Stitched ABCs and colored them into a purple gradient. I dusted the bottoms of the letters with Back Soot Distress Ink and a blender brush.

You can see the Copic markers I used here:

I stamped details onto the potion jars, and a face onto the ghost. I filled in the tiny spider with a black glaze pen, then added a touch of sparkle to the bat wings, the edge of the ghost, and the potion bubbles with Prisma Glitter and a Quickie Glue pen.

I stamped “Happy Halloween” onto the bottom of the card, and added everything else to the card with black foam strips and black foam squares.

TIP: To get the letters nice and straight, I used the Wendy Vecchi Stay-tion. Using the grid on this mat, I laid the letters out how I wanted them, and then I used some low-tack tape to pick the letters up. I added the black foam strips to the back of the letters. Then again using the Wendy Vecchi Stay-tion and the magnetic ruler, I hold the card in place and can center the word “wicked” across the card, once pressed into place I gently peel the low tack tape off.

I matted the whole card onto Black Licorice Lawn Fawn cardstock.

I can’t wait to share with you how this card comes together in the LIVE I will be hosting at 11 am Eastern in the SCT Facebook Group. Of course, if you can’t make it LIVE you can always catch the replay!
