what’s in a name?
Isn’t it funny how parents come up
with so many nicknames for a child?
All of us can probably remember at
least one from our childhood! Some
may be fleeting, and a few even a bit
embarrassing, but some just stick, as
Marla showed us on her humourous,
delightful page.
Her sweet sprout, Finnian, has quite the
collection of nicknames, and Marla’s
layout is such a fun example of how to
showcase all of them. In a random
selection of mixed letter stickers, she
spelled out all of the terms of
endearment that she calls her little
guy.
She sweetened her page by running a
small banner across the top with the
subtitle “nickname” spelled out on
each pennant. Matted strip journaling
chronicles Marla’s confession of why
Finnian is called anything but Finnian!
Marla’s tips for taking
newborn shots

Photograph newborns within the first ten days when they’re still very sleepy
and adjusting to their new surroundings.

Keep the room warm. When photographing newborns undressed, the tiniest
draft will disrupt their sleepy session.

White noise (heartbeat, ocean, rainfall) is your best friend. Keep it going
throughout the entire photo session.

Tuck a heating pad (on a low setting) under the blanket they’ll be placed on
and the newborn will snuggle right in.

Be patient. Undress, feed and then snuggle baby until sound asleep. When
they’re in a deep sleep, transfer to your prop.
