One ofmy long-standing favourite ideas for journaling everyday life is towrite
up a list ofwhat’s happening, using around here asmy starting point for each
short paragraph. It’s such a simple approach and it’s resulted in some ofmymost
loved story collections.
When I journal using the around here approach, I tend to include both facts and
feelings. For the facts, I askmyself questions such asWhat are some facts
about our life right now,What’s been happening, andWhat arewe into? For the
feelings, I get in touchwithmy current emotions by asking such questions as
How do I feel about life right now,What feels awesome and exciting, and
What’s beenmore of a challenge? I like to include a varietyof facts and
feelings for amorewell-rounded look atmy everyday life as it’s happening.

Go bigwith your title. I used large letter
stickers fromMe&My Big Ideas, which
I placed partiallyoff the page (folded
over) for evenmore visual interest.
For this layout, I created the small
circles and addedmy journaling using
Photoshop. I then printed directlyonto a
12"x12" piece of cardstock (using a large
format Epson printer). But you could
just as easily stamp the circles instead
of printing them.
Use up some of your small embellish-
ments. When I create layouts such as
this one, I look around to seewhat
happens to be onmywork table at the
time and add those bits and pieces. I
gravitate towards stars and hearts these
days.
Foldwashi tape in half and use it as a
border aroundyour layout.
Skip the adhesive and attach small
embellishmentswith staples or stitches.
