When I was a little girl my grandmother taught me how to crochet. Nothing fancy, just the basic stitches. I haven’t crocheted any blankets or other practical items in many years, but I do enjoy crocheting on my scrapbook pages from time to time. It’s fun to combine the two crafts (scrapbooking and crocheting), and I think it gives the page a nice homespun feeling. People often think crocheting takes a while, but once you get the hang of crocheting it goes pretty quickly. Just like hand-stitching, it’s one of those mindless tasks that can be done while watching TV or sitting with my daughter while she’s doing her homework. Best of all, it’s super relaxing! I crocheted a simple border around the photo on this layout.
I didn’t crochet on the actual photo (though I suppose you certainly could). Instead, I first cut a slightly larger cardstock mat and then crocheted around the edge of that.
I simply punched holes around the edge of my photo mat, then I crocheted the first row directly through the punched holes. I added a second row for good measure.
If you don’t know how to crochet and would like to learn, there are a ton of YouTube videos showing you how to do the basic stitches. You can also find some “how to crochet” pins on Pinterest with step-by-step photos. It’s actually very easy once you get the hang of it. Whether you already know how to crochet or you’re interested in learning, I hope this inspires you to try it out on your scrapbook pages!
Nice touch! Adds your personal touch and talent to your memories. I like this idea.
Love this layout!
WOW! I love this!
While I have seen and used tiny hand crocheted doilies on a layout, I have never thought about adapting it to a frame…SUPER CUTE!!!
Thanks for sharing your creative talent!
Really cute LO!
I really love this, such a wonderful idea!
Such a wonderful layout. Love the addition of the crocheted frame.
Lovely and ingenious way to add texture and a part of yourself.
You are a genius! I am learning crochet and this would be a perfect project to start. Thanks!
I love this idea! I can crochet but don’t know how to end a project. I have not learned that yet! LOL It has been years since I learned so I really should know that by now but never have!! My goal for the week is to learn how to end it!! Thanks for the nudge! TFS!
Great idea. Lovely page. Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous
How Cute is That! What a lovely idea, especially for photos with my grandparents!
I never thought of doing this – but as I know how to crochet I will certainly be trying it! Thanks for the inspiration.
You could start with a small paper/card circle and the crochet around that just like a doilie.
Wow! This is gorgeous. Looks like something that should be framed in a shadow box and hung on the wall. :)
Love this!! It would work so well in art journals too! Thanks for sharing.
Great idea! – will definitely put this on my “to try” list
Wow – what a geat idea! I’m a crocheter, and will DEFINITELY try this. Great job!
