Happy fall (issue) y’all! Sorry. I couldn’t resist such a greeting, being here to discuss our fabulous Fall 2016 issue and all. In between raking leaves, getting the kiddos back to school, celebrating Thanksgiving (Canada), and carving those pumpkins, I hope you’ve had a chance to check out the issue. It’s a beauty!
If you haven’t had time with this issue yet or would simply like to see it again (and, really, who wouldn’t?) ;), I’m here to explore some of the autumn awesomeness with you. Let’s go in chronological order, shall we? The first thing that signifies the changing of the seasons is the start of school. You’ll find plenty of sweet ideas for capturing this crucial moment.
Sheri Reguly is a pro when it comes to producing polished photos with the use of props. She has many A+ ideas for back to school projects as this issue’s Pic Tips guest columnist.
You’ll find projects for school kids of all ages in this issue. Emily Pitts created this page for our 10 Years, 10 Colour Combos article, which features our design team members’ top hues to use.
As the days cool, those leaves begin to fall. It’s like Mother Nature is creating a giant photo studio for us to enjoy. If you got out to capture the colors of the season, we have ideas for turning your shining shots into shining scrapbook pages.
It’s all about making a statement Cathy Zielske’s Design Your Life column, where she shows how big items can be used in an impactful way.
I’ve fallen pretty hard for the bare simplicity of this layout, which was submitted by Asta Ivanoviene in response to our posted sketch and published in our Sketch Savvy column.
Forget those posies. Make a pocket full of leaves instead. Mel Blackburn has fantastic tips and tricks for scrapbooking in this style in our Pocket Play column.
Before long, it’s Fright Night. Bwahahahahaha! How did you celebrate Halloween? I’m guessing you have a photo (or 600!) to show for your fun. Now’s the time to treat yourself to a little scrapbooking fun.
Holiday scrapping is my favorite. Especially now that I’m a mama and have these sweet characters to document. You’ll find this layout in my editor’s note for the Fall issue.

This brings us to the present. We’re entering a heartfelt season of thanks. If you’re Canadian, you’ve just celebrated your Thanksgiving. (I hope it was spent with the ones you love, relaxing and reflecting.) If you’re in the US, you’re looking for this time off to be with those we’re thankful for in the coming weeks. Either way, we have gorgeous ideas for sending thank you cards to those hostesses who worked so hard to host dinner, layouts that capture the cornucopia of fun, and pretty fall decor that can be used for a few more weeks.
Amy Yingling, is there anything I can do for you? Anything at all? You see, I’d really love to receive such a thank-you in the mail. *swoon This is one of two cards Amy designed for our Sketch Savvy column.
The vibrant shades Mendi Yoshikawa added to her lovely note of thanks beautifully capture the colors of this season! It’s one of many fall favs in our Inspiration Gallery article.
Finally, if you’re like me, it’s time to start thinking holiday cards. I make between 50-100 cards each year… well, most years. This means getting a jump on the action. Jennifer McGuire has some great tips in her Creative Card Techniques column for making cards that are both cost effective and gorgeous. This is just one of three stunners she made.
