Hello, friends!

Things are heating up for our summer 2023 issue, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you next month! But until then, let’s take another look at something new in our spring issue!

In our first issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine for 2023 you may have noticed a new look to our sketch column. Creating with Sketches features card and layout sketches by the talented Allison Davis of Scrapbook Generation. I just love her fresh sketches, and we can tell that our readers are loving them, too!

For my post today, I wanted to do my version of this sketch. My card morphed into an A7 (5×7) card design and instead of concentrating on a floral design, I jazzed it up with lots of color! I thought this card would be awesome to give to a teacher or a student to celebrate the end of the school year.

Supplies Cardstock, acetate, ink, sequins: Simon Says Stamp; Patterned paper: LDRS Creative; Glitter cardstock: Concord & 9th; Stamp: Hero Arts; Dies: Concord & 9th, Honey Bee Stamps; My Favorite Things, Simon Says Stamp; Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, Therm O Web; Other: craft foam

Give me a large shape in the middle of a card, and I’m gonna make a shaker card! There’s something magical about opening a card and giving it a shakety-shake.

To give the Amazing die instant dimension, I die cut it from craft foam. It’s an inexpensive way to add a 3D look, and it’s super fun to touch. You’ll also notice that instead of flowers, I added a bright yellow star to further the encouraging nature of my design. And the black cardstock and white glitter paper allow the colorful patterned paper to shine.

Want to get more out of the sketches from our issue and the bonus sketches, too? Allison has drawn up an 8-page PDF with more information about every sketch in the issue. You’ll find measurements, placement ideas, additional directions, and ideas, as well as a key to what she envisioned for the design when she dreamed it up.

If you’re in a rut creatively, reach for a sketch to get you started! It’s the perfect way to get your mojo going.

Happy May!
