Valentine’s projects by Marla Kress…and a 10th birthday year giveaway!

Valentine’s projects by Marla Kress…and a 10th birthday year giveaway!

Happy heart week SCT readers!  Today I’m going to show you a few Valentine’s themed pieces that I created.

Everything here is super easy to make, takes just a little bit of time and a few supplies.  The wreath was made from only three sheets of paper!  You can use double sided but I chose to keep it single sided knowing that it would eventually end up hanging on my gray wall.  I cut 1”X12” strips and used my stapler to make the entire thing.

Next I made little popcorn boxes…

I cut the boxes using my Silhouette machine, fastened them together and added a Sizzix die-cut heart to the corners.  Two punched holes allowed me to place the red paper straw through the corner (and through the heart).  The arrow tips and tails were cut free hand and added to little slits cut into the straw.  I chose to fill the boxes with popcorn but they’d be great with just about any goodie (and perfect for group treats or even parties).

Happy crafting heart themed décor and projects this week!

And the Taylored Expressions crafting goodies are adorable; they are a great company that I enjoy ordering from when I can. Happy birthday to y’all! 7. Chris Baker Cox February 10, 2016 at 11:29 am

My favorite birthday memory is when I was in grade school/middle school, and I had sleepovers. Myself and my friends would hang out in the basement listening to music, goofing off, and playing ping pong. Because my birthday is in January, we would sometimes go outside and play in the snow. My mom would make homemade pizza and cake. So much fun!!

  8. Gisèle February 10, 2016 at 11:30 am

    That heart wreath is ADORABLE!!
My fav birthday celebration was when I was surprised at a breakfast with my teaching staff! It was a bid one: 50!

  9. Karen B. February 10, 2016 at 11:34 am

I love TE products! Great wreath too. My best birthday memory was sitting in my car after my divorce was granted (I turned 35 that day!) At the time it was the WORST, but two years later I realized it was the BEST thing that could happen to me!

  10. barb macaskill February 10, 2016 at 11:36 am

LOVE the heart wreath!! My favorite birthday memory is when I turned 10 and received an Easy bake oven! I had wanted one for a long time and when I opened the box I cried because I was so happy! I remember baking lots of cakes and cookies for my parents and brother! I was so proud of those sweets that I made and plan to gift my granddaughter with an Easy bake Oven when she is a little older! Can’t wait to taste her treats!
LOVE the adorable Easter dies and papers and the fringe die ROCKS!!! Thanks for the celebration!

  11. theCook February 10, 2016 at 11:38 am

  14. Alma Dirpaul February 10, 2016 at 11:56 am

For my 40th birthday, my husband reserved a room at a local restaurant and secretly invited our friends to celebrate with us. I was surprised since it was 3 days after my birthday. I felt very loved and appreciated. Great memory.

  17. Kelly A. Crowl February 10, 2016 at 12:05 pm

My 16th birthday was my most memorable. Spent the day swimming, had a yummy birthday cake and my very first car…a baby blue 1969 Pontiac Firebird convertible, I only had my permit, but my Uncle let me drive it all over with him as my licensed driver.
I loved that car, but the memories of driving around with my Uncle were just as important.

  18. Helen February 10, 2016 at 12:05 pm

This is such a cute prize package. I just love their products. My favorite birthday memory was my 50th when my family held a surprise party for me with family and friends. 19. Tona February 10, 2016 at 12:09 pm

My most memorable birthday was the 1st birthday I had after I had become a 1st time grandma. I opened up my email that birthday morning & there was a picture of my 4 month old grandson propped up on the couch holding a sign that said Happy Birthday Grandma.

  30. Greta H February 10, 2016 at 1:05 pm

My favorite BD memory is from a few years ago when the night before my BD (which happens to be in 2 days!) hubby asked me to make a BD card for a co-worker. He picked out a particular rose stamp & the colors & the greeting. Next morning he handed me my BD card & you guessed it–it was the card I’d made the night before! I absolutely cracked up & had a great day at work! Being a lover of bunnies (I actually have a collection of music boxes, garden statues, etc) it would be a dream to win this prize & I have just the blogging friend to share with!

  31. Lynne in NI February 10, 2016 at 1:09 pm

I don’t really have a favourite birthday memory … I’m a big fan of birthdays so I love each and every one! Best thing about them … the chocolate birthday cake my Mum makes every year 😉
Great giveaway, I’d share mine with my sister in law (who also shares my birthday, so gets a bit of the cake too LOL)

  32. Karen Lingel February 10, 2016 at 1:09 pm

This stamp set is adorable, thanks for the opportunity to win. My favorite birthday memory is when I was 3 years old, I had a pink cake with a carousel on it, with three horses. I thought it was AMAZING that there were three horses AND I was three years old. What an incredible coincidence!

  33. Mary Holshouser February 10, 2016 at 1:35 pm

I turned 16 in 1956. At that time it was the fashion to have a
“sweet 16” birthday party. My parents took me and several of my girl friends out to a fancy restaurant for supper, I had a wrist corsage, and it was a big production. Loved all of the attention and being 16 and able to go get a job.
thanks. If I win I’ll share with my daughter Kathy.

  34. Barbara Stevens February 10, 2016 at 1:41 pm

  35. Carolyn Johnson February 10, 2016 at 1:55 pm

My favorite birthday was when I was selected as the birthday kid on my favorite tv show and they phoned me. My friends watched the tv in the living room while I was on the phone with them in the kitchen. Thanks for a chance to win a great prize! My friend Jackie would love it.

  36. JoAnn H February 10, 2016 at 2:22 pm

  45. Nina Oelke February 10, 2016 at 4:03 pm

A favorite birthday memory would be when my son turned 25. I was so excited that for some silly reason I blew out his birthday candles. It was like he was just a little guy all over again and needed help to blow them all out. Maybe that was what was going through my head. lol I don’t know, but the family has never ceased teasing me about it. And I have never ceased being embarrassed about it. I love Taylored Expressions. Their products are amazing. Thanks SCT for the opportunity 🙂

  49. Blue Kube February 10, 2016 at 5:27 pm

My happiest birthday was giving birth to my son 2 days before my birthday…he was 3 weeks early so I think he just wanted to give me a big birthday surprise. Which he did!

  50. Deborah Feletti February 10, 2016 at 5:57 pm

Thanks for a chance to win this adorable TE collection for my crafty friend & I! Many happy birthdays in my past but I remember on my 6th, my mom made a big “cake” out of a round hat box and it had ribbons coming out of it connected to lots of little prizes. On the count of 3 all the kiddies pulled on their own ribbon and got a little gift. Lots of fun!

  51. Lee February 10, 2016 at 6:23 pm

For my 50th birthday my husband took me on a surprise vacation to San Juan! thanks!

  52. Joan VanCourt February 10, 2016 at 6:49 pm

My most memorable birthday was when I was a little girl. My dad bought me a little red suitcase, and inside was a pair of roller skates (oh, the kind you attached to your shoes, silver with a key). Wish I would have saved that suitcase. Oh, If Bunnies Could Talk is so cute. I have if Turkeys could talk and I just love TE quality of their stamps and dies.

  53. Grace Tolman February 10, 2016 at 7:09 pm

    What a great giveaway.
My husband and I just got married a few months before my 22nd birthday and he surprised me with a special dinner and show at a famous Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles. It was all a surprise so it was extra special.

  54. KariLynn L February 10, 2016 at 7:11 pm

  56. Carrie February 10, 2016 at 7:28 pm

My birthday is on Valentine’s Day, and my wonderful husband always tries to make it special. My most memorable birthday involved him letting my friends take me out for my birthday and they gave me a Tommy Gun Nurf gun as a gift. The best part was when I opened the Gift, the manager and the waitstaff helped me assemble it, provided batteries, then encouraged me to fire it through the restaurant. The manager was the one who had the most fun with my gift… 🙂

  57. Debbie Vasel February 10, 2016 at 7:45 pm

My favorite birthday memory was when my husband had a surprise birthday party for me after being married 35 years. It was so fun to be with friends, but the highlight was my husband was so nervous about surprising me that he forgot to pick up the cake. So we had another party a week later! I would share with my friend Taylor.

  58. Kathy Gautreau February 10, 2016 at 7:45 pm

When I was twelve, my family went to Florida for Christmas and subsequently my birthday (on the 29th). We went to the Kapok Tree restaurant.. not sure how glamorous it actually was, but to my youthful eyes, it was VERY classy. I remember feeling “all grown up”!! And sun burnt.. very sun burnt!! Too funny.. now I have to go get those pictures out so I can scrapbook them!! Thanks for bringing back a happy memory and giving me a new project!!

  59. Marlene Freylinger February 10, 2016 at 8:04 pm

I’m so happy and excited for the crop and create in Markham counting down the days!!!

  66. mel February 10, 2016 at 9:37 pm

I honeestly dont have any recollection of this, but my mom told me that when i turned 1, my brother (who was 4 then) toppled my cake and landed on the floor! My parents scooped up the cake and put it together so that there is a family photo to commerate my big day! And it was a success! There is a pic of me smiling behind my cake. Takes a whole new meaning to cake smashing!

  70. Janet Sisk February 10, 2016 at 11:20 pm

My most memorable birthday was the surprise party that my coworkers and my husband pulled off. It was for my 40th birthday and they sure got me good! My hubby even made a power point with pictures of me through the years. How he did it without me knowing is still a mystery! 😀 Thanks for a chance to win a fab prize. 😀

  71. Dorina D February 11, 2016 at 12:05 am

Love the projects. Very cute and so fun. Thanks to TE for sponsoring the giveaway. My favorite birthday memory – my 40th birthday party. It was a Surprise party. My sister organized a “WAKE” for lost youth, held at the cemetery and everyone brought flowers – mostly dead flowers. There was a singer, eulogist, the Grim Reaper, prune juice, a triple decadent chocolate cake in the shape of a casket with gummy worms coming out of the sides of the cake and birthday gifts – all black. My favorite gift – an “Old Age Kit”. One guess as to what “Old Age Perfume” is……………..

  72. lisa808 February 11, 2016 at 12:19 am

My 21st birthday – I was from a dairy farm in a small country town, living in the city while studying in the city, far from home. 77. Cyndi February 11, 2016 at 2:22 am

  89. Jane Z. February 11, 2016 at 5:54 pm

My hubby and kids surprised me with a 40th shed party and had over 100 guests show up…drinks, food, etc. No one let it slip ahead of time and they even cleaned up the shed ahead of time for it!!! Double bonus…LOL! Thanks TE and SCT for the chance to win this amazing TE prize pack! 🙂

  90. Tara Betterley February 11, 2016 at 5:59 pm

Love the Giveaway. My favorite birthday was my 30th, my husband tried so hard to surprise me with a weekend away in Toronto and a surprise party. I broke my tailbone two days prior to the huge surprise. It was a tough weekend :)T

  91. Janet February 11, 2016 at 6:03 pm

Mine was this year when my hubby came home with a 8 week old boxer puppy. She is a delight!

  92. paullette truslow February 11, 2016 at 6:09 pm

The Valentine ideas were so clever and cute. The bunny stamp was adorable and I loved the little saying that accompanied it.

  93. Michelle Daigle February 11, 2016 at 6:11 pm

Happy Birthday! My favorite birthday memory was of a surprise 30th birthday party. Everybody that I could have wanted and would have wanted to share that day with was there. It was a complete shock and surprise because 1) my husband could never keep a secret or surprise from me and 2)nobody had every done anything like that for me before. My family pulled it off without a hitch! It’s such a memorable and happy day for me. Thank you to Taylored Expressions and Scrapbooking and Cards Today for a lovely opportunity to win such great goodies. I would be extremely appreciative if I win as I’m fairly new to papercrafting and could really use more supplies. This would be perfect for Easter and this Spring too! Btw, I’m a huge fan of your blog. Thanks for all of the inspiration.

My most memorable birthday isn’t mine, it was my twin’s 1st birthday for me. It took us a long time to get pregnant and we thought we might not be able to have children but then God blessed us with twins! So, their 1st birthday meant a lot to me and I felt truly blessed.

  95. Helen Van Daalen February 11, 2016 at 8:21 pm

My favourite birthday memory is from when I was younger and I had a bunch of friends over and we played outside and played in the pool.

  96. Sandy Ross February 11, 2016 at 9:56 pm

I would have to say that my 40th birthday is my most memorable. I was dreading turning 40 and didn’t want any big celebration. Well needless to say that didn’t happen. From the moment I arrived at work, the celebrating began, with singing, decorations and cake. Then when I arrived home the party really began. One of my friends gave me 40 pennies…what a gift!

  97. Beverly Jordan February 11, 2016 at 10:22 pm

My husband planned and pulled off a surprise birthday for me!! He had so much memorabilia and old photos AND my Dad came long distance!! I was so thrilled and surprised! He had it at a fav’ restaurant so I didn’t even have to clean up! Great time, too!!

  98. Deborah Rikard February 11, 2016 at 11:00 pm

My favorite birthday memory is the surprise party my best friend had for me when I turned 40. It was the first time someone truly surprised me!

  99. Sherri February 11, 2016 at 11:54 pm

My 40th and the huge surprise party my mom threw for me.

  100. gailanne February 12, 2016 at 2:26 am

My favourite birthday memory is of a childhood birthday party where the guests numbered in the high teens and we all sat around the basement ping-pong table to have our cake (there being too many little girls for the dining room.) Party dresses and shiny pointed hats with elastics under our chins…fun times.

  101. Birgit February 12, 2016 at 6:42 am

Adorable projects, especially the popcorn boxes, so fun!! My favorite birthday memory would be the one when my kids “kidnapped” me and took me out to eat in the middle of the day. Quite unexpected and so much fun!

  102. Shari C February 12, 2016 at 10:03 am

My golden birthday at age 13, was a samll group of close friends dancing to disco music and sharing cake. Good memories!

  103. Wahnita Hammond February 12, 2016 at 10:08 am

The best birthday would have been a couple years ago… daughter bought me tickets to Lady Antebellum. The best part was she came to the concert with me. It was an amazing night with my best girl! <3

  104. Gabriella February 12, 2016 at 10:58 am

my best birthday memory every is my twins turning one years old. I was so thrilled they made it to one! I can’t believe how far we had come. It was so wonderful to go into their room and pull them out of their cribs and say “you are a whole entire year old” I just couldn’t believe it

  105. Carol hodges February 12, 2016 at 11:13 am

My favourite birthday memory was the year I tuned 60. I had been widowed 6 months earlier, so it was a very sad time. All of my friends, about 30 of them, threw a party at a friends house so I would know I was not alone, and they continue to stand by and support me to this day! LOVE my friends!

  106. Angela A February 12, 2016 at 11:23 am

My favorite birthday memory is when my best friend totally surprised me and threw me the best surprise birthday ever! It was totally unexpected! She had all my favorite foods, friends, and activities there! She made me cry! Loved every minute of it!

  107. Uma Iyer February 12, 2016 at 11:41 am

Happy Birthday SCT!!!! I was never a birthday celebrating type till my marriage… So the first and the best one was the one after i got married where my husband surprised me with sweet-o-sweet surprises tiny and tender as they could be 🙂

  108. shari klyn February 12, 2016 at 11:44 am

This December I turned 50 and my family got together and bought me the Star Wars bracelet (from Kay’s Jewelers) and several beads. My heart literally skipped a beat. I hadn’t gotten presents for my birthday (it’s right before Christmas) in a long time. It felt so good to be remembered.

  109. AvaO February 12, 2016 at 11:55 am

When my son turned 5, I had a local magician show up at his pre-school for surprise. I have several pictures of him assisting the magician and even holding the real rabbit he pulled from his hat.

  110. Ingrid B February 12, 2016 at 12:46 pm

I don’t have one of my own. I’m more about surprising others. My fav would have to be the year my hubby turned 50 on the very day Garth Brooks was performing in Montreal (this was back in 1996). I arranged to have a Limo pick us up, drop us off at the concert, then pick us up again to go to a Country & Western place where cake, balloons and lots of friends were waiting to surprise him, again. He wasn’t expecting any of it 🙂

  111. Heather Boswall February 12, 2016 at 2:10 pm

Eggs come from where? Love it. I would love to make some Easter cards with this pack, and so would my friend crafty Tanya! Every birthday is special and wonderful, but I always remembered my 10th birthday because my Nannie got me a gift certificate to get my ears pierced! She would have got a kick out of the bunny’s question above too. Miss her.

  112. Linda cook February 12, 2016 at 2:13 pm

My best birthday was my 40th. I had the best husband, best job in my life and I realized 40 was just one more day after 39, not the horrible line into middle age.

  113. Denise Bryant February 12, 2016 at 2:16 pm

    Awesome projects!
My favorite birthday memory…. I was about 8 or 9 I think, and I was so excited to be having a slumber party! The morning of the party, my Mom decided to give me a haircut. Not a good idea. It turned out looking like she put a bowl on my head and trimmed around the bowl. We rushed off to the local beauty salon where the hairdresser worked her magic to fix it. I was in tears, but it all turned out OK in the end! And I enjoyed the fun slumber party! Funny memory!

  114. Cheryl February 12, 2016 at 2:36 pm

Happy 10th Birthday SCT. My best friend is Catherine and we would both love to win this prize. My favourite birthday memory was from a few years ago when my daughter came home from university (she was in her first year) and together with her younger brother they made a restaurant out of our kitchen complete with a menu and fancy dishes etc. They put so much work into the day to make it special for me. It was such a fun day for me and I got to eat all my favourite dishes.

  115. heatherw February 12, 2016 at 2:47 pm

My best birthday was my 30th birthday – I had just met my husband and I got to share it with him and I had a combined party with my best friend whom I have known since I was 8 years old.. And tonight my husband will take me out somewhere to celebrate my birthday (just had to find another babysitter as our let us down) – I would share with my sister in law…

  116. Cheryl February 12, 2016 at 3:16 pm

Celebrating my 40th by hosting a scrapbook night for my friends.

  117. Denise Halstead February 12, 2016 at 4:18 pm

My best birthday memory is actually my husband’s birthday. He was turning 60. My kids and their spouses mounted photos, of them and or my husband, on card stock and wrote a little memory or thankful for… on each one. Everything from story time as toddlers to woodworking and trips to the zoo. These memories were then placed into 60 numbered individual envelopes for him to read. There were a few tears and loads of laughs from all of us but mostly the wonderful memories that we had shared…priceless.

  118. Lori Martin February 12, 2016 at 4:52 pm

My most memorable birthday was when I turned fifty, my hubby surprised me with a Caribbean cruise!

  119. Pam Kubala February 12, 2016 at 5:11 pm

I had just moved to northern Manitoba (Flin Flon) and was attending a friend’s bday party. A lot of things were strange to me (I think that is why I remember it so wellas I was in grade 5). Her mom wrapped coins under the cake & I found that so exciting. We also played games I had never played before.

  120. Pam Kubala February 12, 2016 at 6:24 pm

In my last post, I neglected to name a friend. My pal, Wanda is a great crafter and would love the prize as much as me.

  121. Ange February 12, 2016 at 6:41 pm

  122. Beneta February 12, 2016 at 6:59 pm

The first present my spouse gave me. A apple with a bite out it. Said I was the one who made him want to bite. I will pick my sister Christa as my partner for the prize giveaway. Thanks.

  125. Lynn Gauthier February 12, 2016 at 7:45 pm

Marla, your wreath is just fabulous!
OMGosh, I laughed so hard at the TE bunny! Such a face!! Adorable stamp and die set. LOVE the fringe border die. Can foresee a lot of use with that die.
    Thanks for sharing with us!

  126. Tammie Leavitt February 12, 2016 at 8:14 pm

My mom surprised me for my 16th birthday with a big ole party at the skating rink. All my friends came and we partied like it was 1999 even though it was 1987. Happy birthday SCT!

  134. Regina Harris February 13, 2016 at 9:13 am

Family clamback at nearby park with my sister and cousin having birthdays the same week.

  135. stampnk February 13, 2016 at 2:31 pm

That paper wreath is just spectacular! I used to love making my own party decorations and favors, and my mother always baked my birthday cake. Every one of my birthday parties as a child were fun and special, so they remain my favorite memories of all time!

  136. karenladd February 13, 2016 at 4:54 pm

Happy Happy Birthday to SCT!! My favorite birthday was my 40th, when my daughter gave me a surprise party filled with friends and family! I was completely shocked that she managed to keep it a secret from me!

  143. Charmaine February 15, 2016 at 12:24 pm

My best birthday was a milestone birthday for me, it felt like the parties went on for a couple of weeks. I then set myself some goals to reach by the end of the year – which made it feel like I was celebrating throughout the year as I crossed them (or not off my list). Thanks to Taylored Expressions for the chance to win this lovely prize pack for me and my scrappy friend Tammy.

  144. Helen Gullett February 15, 2016 at 1:08 pm

  146. Tara W February 15, 2016 at 8:35 pm

It’s a toss up between the ruined surprise sweet 16 or the surprise 21st!!!! Thanks for a chance to win, I’m sure my mom and I would have fun days of crafting with this package.

  147. Kerrie February 16, 2016 at 9:36 pm

I’m turning 60 in 2 weeks & my sister is throwing a party for me. I hope this is going to be the best birthday ever. And my husband is sending me to New York as a special treat later in May. Doesn’t get any better than that.

  148. LC February 16, 2016 at 11:57 pm

Birthdays have always been special times in my family. I have lots of fun birthday memories but one that sticks out was the time we went to my favorite restaurant to celebrate. I have always hated being the center of attention so I begged my family not to tell the staff that it was my birthday. Of course they didn’t listen…and after our meal the staff came out singing and cheering as they do but as luck would have it there also happened to be a baseball team in the restaurant and when they heard the singing they came over and joined in. They also serenaded me with a rousing rendition of Take Me Out To The Ballgame. Definitely not a birthday I will ever forget! I love that you’re celebrating all year long. Ten years is such an exciting milestone and deserves much fanfare and commemoration! Thanks for including us in the festivities and for the awesome giveaway!

  149. Marianne February 18, 2016 at 11:12 am

When I turned 21 I was living in a small student room and all of my friends somehow decided to give me flowers for my birthday. The next morning I woke up to the smell of roses and freesias and I had flowers everywhere in my small room.
