We are so excited to welcome the first new member of our 2024 team, Jill Broadbent! We have known and worked with Jill for years, and know that she will be such a wonderful addition to our team! Let’s find out more about Jill today!

I have been in the memory keeping industry for over 20 years. As an avid scrapbooker, I have a passion for teaching people how to tell their stories in unique and meaningful ways. From paper crafts to hand lettering to painting, sharing creativity is my key to joy. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to make my talent and passion my work. I have three children and a very supportive husband, Dave.

To follow along with all my creative endeavors, follow @craftyafternoon on Instagram.

What is your favorite design tip?

When I’m stumped, my go-to design is two 4×6 photos centered with a title above and journaling below. The layout of that template never gets old and then just play with papers and embellishments to bring freshness.

What is your favorite color combination?

Anything with turquoise! I feel like it can be paired with anything and always work. And, because it’s blue/green, it works with most photos. Right now, I love it with coral and peach.

What is your favorite type of project to create and why.

I love a classic 12×12 single-page layout. As much as I love to create ALL the things, this is my first love and brings me so much joy because it usually focuses on one or two photos and one story and I feel like every page I create becomes its own finished piece of art and there is so much satisfaction in each page. And, I love adding those pages to an album and seeing that collection of stories grow.

What is your favorite technique?

I love paper layers. I think there is always ways to tuck in a little more pattern or color behind a photo or add interest in simple ways.

If you have a free hour in your day, how would you spend it?

Honestly, I would likely either challenge myself to create a quick page or I’d sit down with my Apple Pencil and iPad and letter a meaningful quote.

What is one of your crafty goals in the upcoming year?

I feel like I often let the idea of having a full plan for something stop me from just making. So, my goal is to get out of my head about having a plan and MAKE! Sit down with a blank page and see what comes. There is so much fulfillment in the process of making and PLAYING!

What new project type or technique is on your “must-try” list?

I have the foil quill pens and have yet to use them. I know they are not new, but often there are things in our stash we need to revisit and that is one for me that I’m putting on my desktop so I try it.

Where have you been finding inspiration lately?

I love to go on Pinterest and Instagram and search for specific topics to see a lot of ideas for one thing. I also love going to gift shops and markets to see unique things that inspire me.

If you had one piece of advice for a new papercrafter, what would it be?

Just have fun! There are no rules and what you create should bring you joy and fill your creative cup. Don’t compare your work to anyone else.

What new crafty trends are you excited about?

I love that 2024 is all about texture. This is a purposeful trend because so much of our time is spent on flat screens that we’re seeing a push for texture in our home décor and DIYs. I can’t wait to see how it translates into patterned paper designs and artwork created by papercrafters.

What are you most excited about in your craft for 2024?

Being a part of the SCT Team! These ladies are so talented and I feel humbled and happy to be a part of the mix and look forward to the flood of inspiration that comes from SCT in all its amazing forums.
