We are so excited to say hello to a returning team member today, Nathalie DeSousa! Nathalie’s beautiful projects—layouts, cards and so much more!—and excellent teaching makes us excited to be inspired by her for another year! Let’s get to know Nathalie a bit better today!

Hi there! I am Nathalie DeSousa, a stay-at-home wife and mom to young adults and our senior puppy dog. I was born and raised in Ecuador, but live in Toronto, Canada with my immediate family. I love memory-keeping, drinking coffee (nothing beats black coffee and dark chocolate), reading, and taking photos of it all. I am so lucky to get to share a bit of my life with you all through my crafty projects. I am so excited for another term with SCT Magazine, and cannot wait to connect with you throughout it all!

What is your favorite design tip, Nathalie?

There is beauty in small details. Any project can shine by paying attention to the small things.

What is your favorite color combination?

I have said it before, I am a black and white with a hint of rainbow kind of girl.

What is your favorite type of project to create and why?

Though I love 12×12 layouts, my favorite projects are documenting my everyday moments in a 6×8 album or TN.  It is about stories and photos for me!

What is your favorite technique?

I don’t have a single favorite technique, but I do love bringing card-making materials into my layouts.

If you have a free hour in your day, how would you spend it?

If there was an extra hour in the day, you most likely would find me reading and drinking coffee.

What is one of your crafty goals in the upcoming year?

This year, one of my biggest goals is going to be to teach classes in both my native language, Spanish, and English without mixing them up.

What new project type or technique is on your “must-try” list?

I want to dive deeper into monoprinting this year.

Where have you been finding inspiration lately?

I am always looking for inspiration, and usually, I find it in the weirdest of places. However, I still like taking a stroll through Pinterest every so often.

If you had one piece of advice for a new papercrafter, what would it be?

The best advice would be to look into what is really behind their need to craft,  you don’t need to do it all at once, instead take your time to try things, only then you will know what makes your soul sing!

What new crafty trends are you excited about?

I love press plates, and I am looking forward to using them more in my memory keeping.

What are you most excited about in your craft for 2024?

As my kids, both, are now young adults, I am trying to incorporate more of their stories into my everyday memory keeping.   I want them to be able to go back and see how I watched them grow, and understand how much they are loved!
