Join us in a big, welcoming “hello!” to Cathy Zielske, our talented Art Director and second member of our 2024 leadership team!
Let’s get to know Cathy a bit better today!
Cathy Zielske is a graphic designer who has been working in the craft industry since 2002. Aside from her job as the Art Director for Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine, she designs an exclusive line of stamps and dies for Simon Says Stamp and she blogs at cathyzielske.com. She also shares card videos on her YouTube channel, encouraging crafters to take a simple approach to their crafty endeavors.
Cathy, what is your favourite design tip?
Limit your color choices on any project. I find if you try to pick too many, it can get overwhelming in a hurry. Or, just shoot for a monochromatic design, using one color in varying shades.
What is your favorite color combination?
Pink, orange, and yellow.
If you have a free hour in your day, how would you spend it?
I would climb into bed and watch something on my iPad.
What is one of your crafty goals in the upcoming year?
To use more of my older stamps and dies on crafty projects and cards. Many of us who design products and work in the crafty industry have to move from one new product to the next but… I want to find ways to include older products from my crafty stash.
What are you most excited about in your craft for 2024?
I’m excited to continue sharing tutorials on YouTube, which is my favorite of all the social medias. I love my YouTube community so much!
We LOVE being a part of Cathy’s YouTube community! Check out her three favorite recent card projects, and the videos to go along with them:

Tomorrow we’ll be announcing another member of our leadership team! Can you guess who it may be?
Been admiring Cathy since our scrapbooking days, and I met her for the first time when I worked for Paper Crafts magazine, and she worked for Simple Scrapbooks. I was floored that she knew my name! And NOW? We are a card making girls working together for SCT and Simon Says Stamp, too. She keeps me calm and makes me laugh. An absolute gem of a human!
Yayyyy Cathy Z! Love her
I love watching Cathy create her cards!
Cathy is not only very talented and generous with her skills, but I love her humor! I have learned a lot of new card making tips and techniques watching her videos on You Tube.
I’m not sure I would have actually stuck with scrapbooking for as long as I did if I hadn’t stumbled across Cathy Z’s Clean and Simple approach. Minimalist (but GOOD) design with a focus on storytelling… that was my jam. I followed Cathy over to The Card Side and am now a rabid fan of your YouTube videos. So happy to see Cathy’s face on the grid for the 2024 team!
I love CZ’s style, clean and simple. I have learned a lot from her!
my guess for the next leadership member is Paige Taylor Evans
So happy last year when I discovered Crop & Create and my favorite new designer to follow was Cathy!!! Love her designs and videos – she just wraps you up in crafty goodness and you just want to hang with her all day!
Welcome Cathy! Love your videos & your cards!
Who doesn’t love Cathy Z?? 😍 She is so real and relatable, and she makes cardmaking accessible for all. She’s just a delightful individual and a great asset to the industry as a whole. Congrats to her and best of luck to the whole SCT team for 2024!
I’ve been watching Cathy Z’s videos for a few years. I love her laid back style and creating on the fly. Thanks for sharing with a fellow St Paulite
I love watching Cathy Z videos. Love her style and easy instructions. The best part is having her change her mind part way through the card because her idea is not working or she just does not like the choices she made at first. This makes her my idol. (my mistakes go in the trash but don’t have so many since I have been watching Cathy Z.)
Always so much fun with Cathy ! Easy with C-Z !
Always fun with Cathy in her classes! One of my crafty goals this year is to use some of my older supplies too! I have so much stuff and forget about the older supplies as the new ones come in.
Love you card is so dreamy. I was in a fit class you had years ago. I feel like I know you. Glad to hang out with you again this year.
I love watching Cathy on YouTube. I laugh at her oops and that’s okay we can fix that. Cathy is the most down to earth, same as you and I, person I watch. She makes mistakes, just like I do, it sure helps so I don’t feel like a dork! Thanks Cathy for being so creative and sharing it all with us.
