12 Days of Holiday Giving – Day 9!

12 Days of Holiday Giving – Day 9!

Good morning and happy Sunday SCT friends! We are on Day 9 of our “12 Days of Holiday Giving” SCT style, and our favourite song calls for 9 ladies dancing. It could be that after you see today’s inspiration by Paige Evans and the giveaways that follow from our friends at Pebbles and DCWV, we may have about 900 ladies dancing! Are you ready? Let’s get to it…

“Hello everyone, happy holidays! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I have a new layout to share with you today that was really fun to put together, called Snowy Zoe (it rhymes ;).

Snowy Zoe by Paige Evans for Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine

The first thing I did was create a mixed media background on a sheet of white cardstock using Heidi Swapp Gold Color Shine, splashes of blue watercolor, and drops of white acrylic paint. Once it dried, it was time to pick a cut file – I have loved designing cut files for Silhouette the past few months and always look for creative ways to incorporate them into my layouts. I chose my Snowflake Dots to be the focal design element of my background.

Next, I replaced the blade in my Cameo3 with a pencil in the pen tool and had the machine draw the design. Once it was finished I pierced a hole through every circle dot.

Snowy Zoe Detail 2 by Paige Evans for Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine

After erasing the pencil lines, I sifted through my sequin stash and pulled out lots of blue, silver, gold, white, and clear ones and used glue to attach a sequin over each pierced hole. It took a couple hours to complete that process, but I think it’s totally worth it!

Snowy Zoe Detail 3 by Paige Evans for Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine

Once the glue finished drying, I felt like the sequins all blended together, the snowflake wasn’t really defined. No worries, I got some white thread and a needle and stitched over the entire snowflake design. Now it really looks like a snowflake!

Snowy Zoe Detail 4 by Paige Evans for Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine

I found a sweet photo of my niece Zoe making the world’s cutest sad face in her puffy snow suit, splayed in the snow, clearly not impressed with the situation haha. I challenged myself to use my Turn the Page collection with Pink Paislee to embellish and create the title. This collection is definitely not winter-themed, but there are lots of blues, grays, and aqaus, and golds, so it was easy to pick and pull bits and pieces to use to match!

Snowy Zoe Detail 5 by Paige Evans for Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine

I didn’t want to cover too much of the background since I worked so hard to create it so I clustered everything in one place. I layered the photo over several patterned papers and journaling cards, made the title with mini alphabet stickers, fussy cut a sentiment from a patterned paper, added a strip of gold washi into the layers, placed chipboard stars, paper chain people stickers, scalloped washi tape, and just lots of little things for eye candy! It was so fun to embellish! I even added another cut file, this time I used my Snowflake and cut it to about 4″ to make another delicate layer behind the photo.

I hope you are inspired to create a wintery page, perhaps with sequins in a fun shape for an eye-catching background design! Thanks for joining me today, Merry Christmas!” ~ Paige Evans

I love many snowflake designs, and I can appreciate the value of preserving memories in special ways even when they are not pleasant, because they are all important parts of our lives! *One of my favorite holiday foods is Eskimo Cookies. They have an easy no-bake, no-cook ball-shaped cookie recipe with only a few ingredients(a few main ones are oatmeal, cocoa, and powdered sugar!), and it is extremely hard to only eat one…or “just a few”! The other foods that I really look forward to are the cookies that I make with my kids or the foods that I make and give away to loved ones or share with them at a holiday table. 🙂 <3

  124. auntie em December 17, 2017 at 8:01 pm

LOVE that layout! The snowflake from sequins is so beautiful! The stitching really does make it all pull together but it must have taken some time and patience! lol The cute picture is perfect on it. 🙂

We had our Family Christmas dinner this weekend for my siblings and family. It was so good to see three generations gathered together to enjoy the season. One of my sister-in-laws ALWAYS has to bring her cheesy potato casserole. She tried to change it one year. It is still remembered with horror as the year of ‘NO Cheesy Potatoes’! A very difficult and sorrowful time for some family members! lol And I have to make Minty Nanaimo squares. Thankfully they are easy to make.

Thank you so much for sharing all these wonderful gifts. 🙂

  142. Bonnie December 17, 2017 at 9:52 pm

Another day of wonderful prizes and inspiration – that sequined star is stunning! As for favourite food – oh to choose! For the traditional side, probably our brined and BBQ’d turkey that we make every year – the smell makes everyone, even the dog drool, from the moment we just start mixing the brine! For the Chinese side of me, my mother’s lotus wrapped rice dumplings – a tradition she follows, passed down from both my grandmothers – I love them, and my husband adores them too. I swear my mom and aunts make them just for him now!

  143. Jennifer Stahr December 17, 2017 at 9:57 pm

  158. LC Lamothe December 18, 2017 at 1:31 am

The stitching on the gorgeous sequin snowflake is fabulous. It’s the perfect touch! My favorite holiday food are the Belgian waffle cookies my Grandma used to make. No one makes them quite like she did. They were a staple at our family Christmas celebrations for so many years. She’d always set aside a special tin of them just for me. I love Pebbles’ awesome collections. They have such lovely and fun prints. Their embellishments are awesome too. I don’t have a letter board but would absolutely love one. Thank you SCT, Pebbles and DCWV for the exciting chance to win!

  170. Lori December 18, 2017 at 7:12 am

Honestly, the snowflake page is award winning! And simple pickle wraps made with dill pickles, cream cheese and wrapped in real dried beef is the bomb according to my family. They like them so much I no longer cut all of them into sliced pieces. Give them to the kids whole! That is what Santa would want!

  171. Lauren December 18, 2017 at 8:00 am

Fun, unique page!! I would have never thought of using sequins, love it. Thank you for the give away and Merry Christmas!!

Paige’s layouts blow my mind! I’m still sad that I didn’t get the chance to meet her at C&C Thunder Bay. I’m such a fangirl! Today’s prizes are fabulous! Once again, thank you to your generous sponsors. I’ve been leaving some love on some of their FB pages every time I get the chance. For my favourite Christmas food, well, being Portuguese, our Christmas tradition involves a lot of seafood. Shrimp, lobster and octopus are my absolute favourites!

  190. Julie Golding Page December 18, 2017 at 10:05 am

The Valentine’s kit would be a great kick-start to post-holiday crafting. Not to mention a great way to get those Valentine’s Day cards done…I always seem to stall after the festive season and miss out on that holiday. Love the letterboard kit, too! (Now I have two chances to win a letterboard, great!)
Hmm…fave holiday food…my husband and I are from the East Coast, but we’ve mostly lived away from there during our married life (16 of 23 years). For many years now, we’ve replaced turkey with seafood for our main festive dish. It’s been a real treat when we’ve lived inland, a way to re-connect with and honour our roots, and also a lot less time to prepare on those busy December days.

  191. Carole December 18, 2017 at 10:19 am

    Fabulous giveaway today. Thank you.

  227. lbholt December 19, 2017 at 9:42 am

My favorite holiday food? Well, I do enjoy turkey – or at least turkey sandwiches after the turkey is carved. But at this time of year, our Polish family indulgence is PIEROGIES – and yes, we do drench them in sautéed onions.

  228. Sue Alger December 19, 2017 at 10:17 am

Every year our Christmas dinner and has featured prime rib–delicious, complete with mushrooms and onions. One year my son also made Yorkshire pudding to go with the prime rib. Again thanks to your sponsors for all the wonderful prize. What a beautiful background for this memorable photo. Lots of work but what an impact.

  241. Nicole Milway December 19, 2017 at 4:45 pm

My favourite holiday food is called Pink Salad mainly because it is a mixture of stuff you toss together.
1 large tub of light cool whip
1 small tub of light sour cream
    1 raspberry jello powder package
1 tin of drained fruit cocktail

mix together in that order and put in the fridge for four hours – YUMMMM

It’s very pink, but you can change the colour by changing the jello powder package…

Thanks for the chance to win this – this is my favourite giveaway yet!!!

  276. Karen Meyer December 20, 2017 at 12:10 am

Wow! This layout is simply beautiful and thank you for sharing this technique. My favorite holiday food is not really a “holiday” food, but an appetizer my mom would make for the holidays. She calls them Salami Rolls… take a thin slice of salami and spread a thin layer of cream cheese onto it. Cut a dill pickle spear into thirds and roll the cream cheese covered salami around one of the thin pickle spear slices, the cream cheese will ‘seal’ the roll. They are super simple to make and taste so good! Thank you for the chance to win this great prize package and Happy Holidays to all!
