Hello there, SCT readers! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today and I’m so excited to share a closer look at one of the projects that I created for the summer issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today

I was lucky enough to work with the amazing Wonders collection from our own Paige Taylor Evans for American Crafts to create in a format that I just love: MemoryDex cards! I created a series of summery, colourful cards to record the summer of 2018, but without much space in the “10 Most Wanted” column, I get to share the inside of this project here with you today, and give you some tips on creating your own MemoryDex filled with summer memories! Let’s take a look at what you can see in the magazine on page 31.

Supplies | Rolodex: Heidi Swapp MemoryDex spinner – Blush Pink; Dies: Heidi Swapp MemoryDex die set – oval; Patterned paper: Wonders collection 6 x 8 inch paper pad; Alphabet stickers: Wonderful alphabet Thickers, Happy Day phrase Thickers; Stickers: Wonders 6 x 12 sticker sheet, Wonders banner stickers, Wonders sticker book, Wonders puffy stickers, Wonders washi tape; Die cuts; Wonders icon ephemera

I just love the layered, dimensional cover of this MemoryDex mini album. Created using papers from the Wonders paper pad, ephemera, washi tape, puffy stickers, and those fantastic Thickers, this page sets the tone and the colour scheme for the project. Now, let’s take a look at the cards that follow it.

Each card features a fun photo memory from a busy summer, and to keep my process simple, I used the same products over and over again to add beautiful layers. I began with a patterned paper card, cut using the MemoryDex dies, alternating between two different shapes to keep the overall look interesting. On the card above, adding the large circle die cut helped to break up some of the angles on the base.

Different shapes and textures, like tags, tabs, scraps of vellum and foiled stickers from the gorgeous Wonders collection really make flipping through this album a visually interesting and textural experience. I also love allowing BIG elements, like the “sunshine and smiles” die cut above to hang off of the edge of my MemoryDex card to create different shapes on each layer.

Each card showcases a special photo from our summer—the ones that pull at my heartstrings! The fun part is accenting them with products from the Wonders collection—the perfect summer collection, in my opinion! On the card above, the big pink “happy as can be” tag was the perfect addition to top the photo of my daughter in her pink bathing suit, happily buried in the sand and playing with her toys. Also, keep your fabric and ribbon remnants to hand when you’re working in your MemoryDex. The fabric adds fun elements and texture to peek out from behind other cards.

A little shimmer goes a long way, and the foiled polka dot vellum that I used on several cards, as well as a fine gold thread that I bundled and adhered behind my layers, added accents to the foiled elements in the Wonders collection. These shiny touches even dress up a summer baseball game memory!

Although it’s tempting to document only the beachy, adventure-filled moments of summer, don’t forget about the everyday ones, too. Walks in the neighborhood or trips to the grocery store deserve to have a place in your project, and the “home life lately” die cut ephemera piece was the perfect match for this photo of my daughter surveying the local library stack.

I just love flipping through these happy, colorful MemoryDex cards, almost as much as I loved making these summer memories! Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope you’ve been inspired to create your own MemoryDex project, and if so, we have the perfect class for you coming next month! Scroll down to find out more, and I hope you’ll join us!
