Today we’re excited to continue Card Week with our fall issue cover girl, Aurélie Cormier! We know that every time you create a project you have scraps sitting on your desk, and today Aurélie is here to inspire you to put them to use on a beautiful card that you can share with someone else! Let’s take a look at what a card created with scraps from our fall issue cover layout would look like!

……………………….

Hi! Hello! Hey! It’s Aurélie here and I am beyond the moon excited to be an SCT guest designer this week! YAY!

When SCT invited me to do a few cards inspired by the layout I created for the Fall 2021 cover, not only was I super excited for the opportunity, but my creative wheels immediately started to turn. There are key design elements on my layout that I knew I wanted to include on my cards. Here they are:

  1. Framing;
  2. Stitching;
  3. Handmade paper flowers;
  4. Scattered hearts;
  5. Foliage; and
  6. A hint of gold

Supplies | Simple Stories: patterned paper, chipboard frame, chipboard, ephemera, stickers, foam stickers; Pinkfresh Studio: washi tape, dies (foliage and oval), metallic pearls; Photoplay Paper: die; Spellbinders: die; Other: cardstock, adhesives, paper trimmer, die-cutting machine, stitching templates, thread.

After I completed my cover layout, I had some leftover handmade paper flowers I had created with the Spellbinders’ Button and Daisy Chrysanthemum dies. I knew I wanted to use these as central design elements for my cards. For my first card, I opted to frame an oval die cut using the Pinkfresh Studio Stitched Oval die with the same Simple Stories B-side patterned paper I used to create the frame on my layout. I then layered one of my leftover paper flowers on the top left corner of the oval with different foliage and hearts, mixing and matching Pinkfresh Studio’s Indigo Vines die-cut washi tape and Simple Stories’ ephemera pieces and stickers

For my second card, I used the negative space of the oval die cut I created for the first card. No leftovers! I framed the hollowed oval with hand-stitching and filled it up with leftover handmade paper flowers. Gotta love dimensional adhesive! A Simple Stories chipboard piece was the perfect backdrop for the Photoplay die-cut sentiment, and of course, I layered in foliage by both Pinkfresh Studio and Simple Stories. To complete the card, always keeping the key design elements I used on my cover layout, I sprinkled in a few Simple Stories chipboard and sticker hearts as well as Pinkfresh Studio metallic pearls.

In French, we say, “Jamais deux sans trois!” which loosely translates to “Never two without three!” I mean, c’mon—I made the first two cards with two of the three Photoplay sentiment dies. I just couldn’t leave the third one out of the fun! This time around, always keeping the key design elements of my cover layout in mind, I used a Simple Stories chipboard frame on which I layered one of my leftover handmade paper flowers with Simple Stories ephemera and foam stickers as well as Pinkfresh Studio die-cut washi tape. And that hand-stitching? I lined up the design on the chipboard frame and hand-stitched the background so that the two points on the frame would meet. It created a neat chicken-wire-looking effect, wouldn’t you say? Perfect for a fall-themed card!

There you have it! Three cards are done with products I had on hand after completing another project! YAY! Sometimes, all you have to do is look at what you’ve done to keep going and keep creating. It really is as simple as that. So, what will you keep creating when you complete a project? The products are all in front of you. Might as well use them, right?

Happy scrapping!

………………….

Hello! I’m so happy to see you here! First thing you should know about me: I L-O-V-E scrapbooking! In fact, it’s been an integral part of my life for more than a decade. I now consider myself a memory keeper. I mix and match elements of traditional scrapbooking with those of pocket scrapbooking all while documenting the small and big moments of my life with my husband and our two children in New Brunswick. For me, journalling is truly as important as photos. I also dabble in memory planning, MemoryDexing, and cardmaking. Finally, I thoroughly enjoy creating paper flowers to embellish my projects!

I’d be giddy with pride if you would follow me on Instagram @aureliecormierperreault.
