Hello there, friends! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today, and if you didn’t know it, I’m leading a year-long class called Scrapbook 101: Better Than the Basics! We’re just over the halfway point in the year, and we are learning so much from both the lessons and each other in the class Facebook Group! Today I wanted to share what we’ve been up to for the past three months, as well as some truly amazing projects our classmates have been sharing! Here we go!

May’s lesson was all about one of my favourite elements of the page process: the TITLE! Some of my friends have called me the title queen, and that’s a title I will gladly accept! In this lesson, we learned about how to create a title that introduces the story, where to look in our stash to find elements to create it, and where to fit our title into the page design. Our amazing guest contributor, Sophie Delorme, shared so many amazing title examples for inspiration, too. If you’ve ever struggled to create a title, this is a great lesson for you to delve into. I was so excited that so many in the class dove into titles this month. Take a look at these layouts:

Carrie created a sweet title in a classic font at the top of her page. I love that she used white alphas to stand out against the texture in her woodgrain pattern!

Nicki used a go-to method for adding a title in a BIG way on her page: a large die cut word! We love the patterns she chose to back it, and how she achieved balance with all of the elements that she added to the right side.

Rebeca blew us all away with this layout and made me so proud by using three different alphabet elements to create her title: an alphabet stamp, and two different textures of alphabet stickers. Plus, she used the sweet little bee banner to stamp “you are!” How wonderful!

June’s lesson had a definite travel vibe and focused on the STORY of the page: different ways to get it on your layout, how to establish your voice throughout your album, using prompts and how to make the story aspect of your design visually appealing with the product that you select. Of course, I had to ask my friend Jess Forster to contribute to this class and she left us all in deep thought with her introspective questions about what stories were most important to us. Take a look at how a few of our members created with this lesson:

Clean and beautiful, the simplicity, beautiful balance, and story focus of this page by Carolyn just epitomize the focus of our lesson this month.

Jeanne told a hard story in this page, and reminded us that those are important to document too!

We love the clever way that Misty combined her embellishment on this page with the story of her cat in such a creative way!

This sweet layout by Patty combines the story and photos so beautifully, as the two that she chose really show off what she expresses in her journaling.

July’s lesson was our most requested lesson yet, on EMBELLISHMENT! If you struggle to add the right products in the right amount, and in the right place on your layout, you’ll love this lesson! We talked about using the principles of design when we select and place our embellishment, how to layer, and a few go-to embellishment designs that are fool-proof for any layout! Our guest, Steffi Ried blew us away with the layout that she shared, created using only embellishments! Here are a few of the class layouts that wowed us this month:

Stacie added contrast in materials and used a great embellishment design that made the focus on her photos on this striking page.

Sarah created a beautiful triangle of embellishments around her photo mat and created beautiful embellishment layers using the tips from the class content!

Patti busted her stash to create this amazing tri-column colourblocked design—one of the go-to embellishment methods we spoke about in class!

Weren’t these projects wonderful? Besides the class content, it’s our classmates who are inspiring us each month, too! We hope you’ll join them and create with us, too!
