Happy Thursday, friends! For today’s post, we’ve invited guest Danielle Miller to the blog to show us what she’s loving today! The new collection she chose matches her pretty, layered style with plenty of florals perfectly, and we love her other two loves—not products, but a tried and true design technique and a great way to add extra texture to your projects. Let’s take a look!

Hi, friends! It’s Danielle Miller here, and I am so excited to be sharing a layout for Things We Love Thursday. I love all things flowers and floral ephemera packs are one of my all-time favorite supplies. When I saw The Little Things collection’s Floral Bits & Pieces, I knew I had to create with them. Simple Stories includes a fun variety of cardstock die-cut ephemera in their packs.

When I am documenting memories on a time crunch, I am likely to draw inspiration from a previous layout of mine, some call this “scraplifting”. This works similarly to using a sketch, as it takes most of the guesswork out of the layout. There are times I design precisely the same as the previous layout, and sometimes I use it as a gentle guideline.

One of the papers in the kit, Choose Joy, has two gorgeous florals. I chose the B side with the smaller floral to frame my layout. I also used this paper to frame my photo, a picture of my daughter. This helps create a cohesive feel for the page. The background paper, Lovely Day, has a checked pattern that goes well with my photo. I like that this combination of papers echoes the color scheme of my daughter’s dress without drawing attention away from the photo.

Cutting the paper, Perfect Moments, in a circle created a grounding element for the layout. Hand stitching the border helps add interest.  I kept the stitching black to not distract from the main attraction of the layout, the photo. The Tag Elements cut apart sheet has this sweet sentiment, Love you lots. This tag fits nicely with both the photo and the color scheme of the layout.

I used those floral clusters to help draw your eye around the scrapbook layout. To add depth to the floral elements, I popped up the ends with thin foam squares. This helps to make the petals look dimensional. The enamel dots also aid in moving your eyes around the layout. Keeping them tonal to the background paper helps give the effect without drawing away from the main photo. Lastly, I used one of the foam stickers to title my layout. The added depth of these elements draws your eye in.

When I use this combination of scraplifting, floral ephemera, and hand stitching it helps me create a fun and interesting layout in minimal time! Thank you for joining me for Things We Love Thursday. I hope I have inspired you to grab a collection and start creating something beautiful!
