Happy World Cardmaking Day, SCT Friends!
As Christmas approaches, our busy schedules get even busier, but as paper crafters, we feel that tug to create handmade cards. Gathering all kinds of supplies can be overwhelming and time-consuming, so I’m here with a solution that might help! Grab your favorite holiday collection, and start pairing things together!
I created four no-stamping, one collection-focused cards in the span of about an hour, and not only did I end up with three cards to send, I had a lot of fun, too! The collection is Photoplay’s Tulla & Norbert Christmas Party.
This was my favorite of the group:
I just LOVED this chipboard sticker of Santa and Rudolph, and since green is one of my favorite colors, that green polka dot has my heart. I added a red gem to the reindeer’s nose for added sparkle and whimsy. The sentiment was from the ephemera pack—no stamping necessary! Oh, I must mention there was a tear under the word Christmas, so I slapped a sticker on top. Problem solved!
The pickup truck sticker was another element I loved, so I created a “road” with patterned paper strips and the “sky” consists of a snowflake patterned paper. I added MORE snow with iridescent snowflake sequins. Here the sentiment is the front license plate. NO stamping!
The horizontal card was created using a 4×6 card cut from 12×12 paper. To fit on an A2 card, I had to chop off a reindeer to the right of Santa, so I placed a chipboard sticker over the chopped-off deer and then trimmed it off. This time the sentiment is from a sticker. And again, no stamping is required!
Supplies | Cardstock: Concord & 9th; Patterned paper, chipboard, die cut shapes, stickers: Photoplay Paper; Dies: My Favorite Things; Sequins: Simon Says Stamp; Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, Therm O Web; Other: Gems
You will notice that there are only three shown in this blog post, and I mentioned four. You’ll have to see the fourth one in the editor’s note of our Winter 2021 issue!
Have a creative World Cardmaking Day!

DROP THE MIC.
I started making cards in 1989 due to my love of stickers and rubber stamps. I loved that I felt like I was actually be arty , and making people feel special at the same time!
I love card making as I enjoy the creative process and am so grateful for the amazing friendships I have formed with like minded crafters. It’s like magic for the soul!
I started making Christmas cards about 5 years ago. The best part is the thank you’s I receive. People pin to thier cordboards at work, on mantels and fridges. A few have every card I have sent. It makes me happy that my hobby makes people smile.
I love cardmaking because anything goes! It’s a great way to explore new techniques and materials while making something useful.
Oh that’s easyK I love card making because it gives me a chance to make someone’s day a little brighter, it gives me another creative outlet. Thank you for all the wonderful examples and giveaways.
Thanks for the fun day! It has kept the juices flowing. I made a scrapbook layout instead of a card. Oops!
I love sharing happiness with others!
I love the chance for creative expression in a smaller project-it’s so satisfying to be able to complete something beautiful to brighten someone’s day!
I love card making because when I send one to a friend, there reaction makes me feel good. Some days I am much better at card making then today. Today I started with good intentions however my stamping and coloring was poor. Spend the whole day trying to make one card. Lol
I love to make my own cards because you can make them much more personalized than one from a store. I too often make cards as suggested in this post, no stamping! Thanks for all the inspiration SCT
I love to make my own cards because you can make them personalized to each person, I too enjoy making cards like Susan suggests, no stamping! Thanks SCT for the inspiration today and every day
Love making cards to encourage others!
I love making cards because it’s me being able to get in touch with my creative side. I then love sending them to people hoping to bring a smile to their face when they receive it.
I love making cards for others to brighten their day! It’s all about giving!
I love card making because I can take a plain white sheet of cardstock, some stamps and ink, and a few embellishments and create a beautiful card that I am proud to give to someone! I hope that the people who receive my cards enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them. Thanks for all the great inspiration today. Happy WCMD!
Fun set of cards! I’ll watch for the fourth one!
I love the process of cardmaking! Choosing just the right stamps and dies, colors and embellishments to use, and then putting it all together to come up with finished product!
I got into card making early this year. I love that I can complete a project in a short time. Colouring stamps is my fav thing ever and I want to put the adorable images to good use!
What an amazing card making weekend! Thanks to SCT for putting together an amazing group of instructors.
I love card making because I can use creativity to make something to give to someone I care about. I don’t have a lot of artistic ability, but I can use techniques and ideas I see and make something all my own. I’ve always loved anything to do with paper!
I love how sending a card can brighten someone’s day, put a smile on their face and make them feel better. There’s a lot of power in paper and glitter!
Cute cards by Susan! I love cardmaking because I can customize my greetings for loved ones – make them pretty, or funky, or masculine…but most of all unique! AND cardmaking is an extension of my memory-keeping, because I can use some of the same supplies and make the most of my crafty investment. Creativity is good for the soul!
You had me at no stamping! These are so great! I just did a class with Photoplay Paper and it was so fun! It takes ‘sticker slapping’ to a whole new level don’tcha think :)
Why do I love cardmaking? I’m not even sure really…it’s just one of the few things that bring me joy. I’m not that great at it and I spend more time looking for inspiration than actually getting the card done, but I think it makes me feel just a little bit creative and it gives me something to focus on that is just for me. I take care of a lot of people and working full time, I don’t have a lot of me time…this gives me that I think. It gives me a chance to refocus and a chance to let drop all those balls in the air that I continuously juggle. I need that…. a lot :)
I love to make a special personal cards for my friends and family. It gives my great joy to make these card straight from my heart.
I love making cards for family and friends. I personalize each one for the person getting them. It gets my creative side going and I find it very relaxing to make them. I enjoy seeing people’s reactions when they open their cards and know they are appreciated much more than store bought ones.
I love card making because my friends love cards!
I love making cards and giving something special to my family and friends

These cards are great! It’s always fun to have a no stamping option for cards. :) I love making cards so I can have some creative time, and it’s also so nice feeling the joy of giving my card to someone else to brighten their day or make them feel special. :)
These are so cute! I love card making for the way it allows me to share my creativity with others and to share a part of myself with others!
I love cardmaking because I can be creative in small doses, as well as share something special with family and friends!
These holiday scenes are just darling, fab inspiration for when we’re short on time. Card making makes me feel creative and I get a lot of joy out of pairing stamps, dies and paper to create cards. Brightening someone’s day with paper is an added bonus.
The best thing about card making is the friends I have gained! I have met the most generous, wonderful people through this hobby.
I like making cards because I do better on a smaller canvas. I find it hard to fill up a 12 x 12 layout. Plus everyone loves to get a snail mail card!
I took a long “vacation” from cardmaking. I returned to my first love in crafting after COVID hit. People are stressed and unhappy for various reasons. Now, I make cards to give to my friends and family to put a smile on their faces…. Even for a minute. I want them to know I am thinking of them.
I love cardmaking, because it’s fun and you are able to give people a touch of kindness and thoughtfulness with what you create.
Why do I love cardmaking? There are a few reasons:
Scrapbooks are for me & my family but cards are for anyone that I know (or do not know)
Cards are smaller pieces of art
I can get creative with my techniques and tools
I can play with friends, both old and new, without having to bring a lot of tools like I would with scrapbooking
I can enjoy my collection of stamps, dies, inks and more while creating happiness for myself as well as those that I send a card
Joy, pure joy!
I love card making because it makes someone’s day. They know you but thought and care into making the card. Plus I like using my hands.
I love the creative process of cardmaking. It gives me time when I can forget what’s happening in the world & now days that’s a pretty good thing! The best thing, though, is that cardmaking has given me friends all over the world! Truly a blessing!
What great ideas!! I loved how you layered all the elements together. I started making cards seven years ago. After a horrible year of job losses, accidents, and losing three foster children, I was mentally broken. Cardmaking allowed me to heal. Now I spend my days teaching others how to create cards in hopes that it provides the same joy and mental healing for them.
I started scrapbooking first and then began to make cards. Cards are wonderful, and the joy they bring is beautiful. It’s always a great day to send someone a card. Cheers to cards!
I love card making because I love seeing the joy in the recipient’s face when they open a handmade card. It is very satisfying. Also, cardmaking is a great way to relieve stress for me. I have made some wonderful friends throughout my paper crafting journey over the past 15 plus year.
I find card making to be therapeutic. I give many away to women’s shelters and seniors home to brighten their lives.
I love card making because it’s a great creative outlet for me and I love that my cards will bring a smile to the face of the recipients.
