Hi friends! It’s Wendy Sue here today, sharing a project I created just in time for a brand new school year to begin. When my kids were younger, I used to LOVE slipping little notes into their lunch bags. Sometimes the notes were for encouragement when they were having a hard time, some notes were to wish them good luck on a test, and some were just to remind them how amazing they are and how much I love them! I was excited to use Echo Park’s “First Day of School” collection to create a quick and easy project to share so the tradition could continue! Here’s a peek at my lunch notes project:

These little mini cards are super simple and they were so quick and easy to put together (and because they didn’t take a ton of time, I won’t be heartbroken if the notes find their way to the trash before the final lunch bell rings – because… kids.) I started by cutting several pre-printed 3 x 4-inch cards from the patterned paper collection. Next, I cut coordinating card bases (6 ½” x 4 ¼”, folded in half to create a 3 ¼” x 4 ¼” card) from patterned paper. I simply attached the 3 x 4-inch cards to the front.

On the inside of the card, I placed a 3” x 3 ½” piece of white cardstock, attached with cute washi tape on the top and bottom. Next, I embellished each white block with a few stickers. I left enough open space to jot down a quick note—and if I have more to say, it would be easy to add another white piece of cardstock on the left side as well.

I always liked to keep these notes safe and in a handy spot for tucking into lunch bags in the morning. To contain the notes, I embellished a plain A2 envelope with some patterned paper and stickers. I cut off the envelope flap for easy access, and then I would just tuck the envelope right in the drawer where I keep the brown paper lunch bags.

Of course, I couldn’t leave the back of the envelope plain, so I added a few stickers to the corner. Stickers on school-themed projects are a no-brainer, right?!?

As your children grow older, you could use different types of themed collections for their notes based on their interests (ie football, dance, theater, etc.) or even holiday themes (Halloween, Christmas, etc.). It’s just a sweet way to remind your kiddos that you’re thinking of them, and they love it—even if they won’t admit it right now. It just might become a favorite memory for them AND you!

Happy back-to-school!
