It’s day four of our 16th Birthday Week celebration, and thank you for coming to the party! Today we have special guest Dana Joy with us to share one cute card that celebrates unity and diversity behind its sentiment! Let’s take a look at what Dana is sharing with us today, and don’t miss the giveaways at the end of this post!

Hello, all my crafty-loving people. I’m Dana Joy the person behind Got Joy Creations. Using bright colors and beautiful stamps that work well together help to make a beautiful card. For today’s card, I used products from Hero Arts and Hero Arts Unity Collaboration with Pocono Pam and myself. This is going to be one happy card!

When I’m creating a card I most likely will start with the color palette. For me, the color palette sets the tone for your card. For my birthday card, I wanted bright and happy colors. I also knew I wanted a focal image along with flowers. Now since I knew what I wanted, it was time to sketch the card design. Sketching the design in advance will help you imagine what the final card will look like.

Now it was time to color. Starting with the Hero Arts Kids United stamp set, I stamped the precious little girls with Hero Arts Intens-ifed Black Ink on Hero Arts Dove White Cardstock and did easy Copic coloring. To help keep the color scheme working throughout the card, I’m using the same colors to color the little girls as I will use later in my flowers. For the girl on the left, I used the following Copic markers: E00, E02, R20, E30, E33, YG23, YG25, RV13, RV14, N5, and N9. The colors of clothing and shoes are the same for the girl on the right, except I used the following Copic markers for her skin and hair: E11, E13, R20, E55, E59.

I advise getting the coordinating Hero Arts Kids United Frame cuts with your stamp set. You can also fussy cut the image if purchasing the coordinating die is not an option. Using the coordinating dies helps with stacking additional layers of an image without having to use foam tape.

Any time a stamp set has a coordinating stencil, ALWAYS grab the stencil. It makes coloring a breeze, and you can create beautiful blends. The flowers on the card are from the Hero Arts Peonies Bunch stamp set. Creating that blend on the flowers was super easy as I have the Hero Arts Color Layering Peonies Bunch stencil. The color blend was created using Hero Arts Reactive Inks in Lemon Drop, Taffy, Key Lime Fizz, and Green Apple. These colors work beautifully together and blend into gorgeous colors.

When using an image without a background like the little girls here, I suggest when you are placing them on a card, create a “grounding” spot for them. This way, they are just not floating on the card. For added interest, I hand-drew a brick wall for my little girls to sit on top of and made clouds in the background using Copic markers. A simple sentiment from the Hero Arts Flowers In A Vase stamp set stamped in black ink was all I needed.

Just a little sparkle from a Scrapbook.com Glitter Brush Maker in clear and Nuvo Crystal Glaze in clear on the girl’s shoes and hair bows finished the design off nicely. A black mat of Hero Arts Pitch Black Cardstock adhered with Hero Arts Precision Glue onto a 5 x 7 inch card base from Hero Arts Dove White cardstock made this beautiful card complete.

I hope I have inspired you to pair up your people images with florals for an oh-so-pretty birthday card. Remember, picking that color palette and sketching your card design in advance will be a game-changer in your card making journey. Thanks for visiting the Scrapbook & Cards Today blog, and have a wonderful weekend!

I have been crafting for over 20 years and my love for it continues to grow. My husband and I currently live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. We have two grown children, Jazmin and Kier, along with our little Schnoodle, Remy. I hope I have inspired your card making time today!
