Welcome back to the blog for day three of our sweet 16th Birthday Week celebration! If you have a lot of photos to document from a big birthday celebration, but not a lot of time to do it, design team member Meghann Andrew has an idea for you: document in two ways—a traditional page and an accompanying pocket page! Let’s take a look at what Meghann has created for us today, and don’t forget to watch her process video and check out the amazing giveaways in store for you today, too!
…………………….
Hello there, friends! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today, and I am SO excited to be here for SCT’s 16th birthday party! I don’t know about you, but I tend to take quite a few photos when someone I love is reaching another birthday milestone, which means I have a lot of photos that need to go into my album. How do I do that without creating lots of layouts? I create a traditional layout with a pocket page spread to get the most out of my memory keeping in the least amount of time. Take a look!
Supplies | Close to My Heart Cake Day collection: Paper packet + sticker sheet, coordinating cardstock, Picture My Life cards, scrapbooking stamp + thin cuts, Exclusive Inks stamp pads (Wild Berry, Sundance, Lemonade), silver loose sequins, adhesive runner; Elle’s Studio: Hazel alphabet stamp, label; EK Success: powder tool; Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L: Crafty foam tape
This bright and colorful page just shouts, “surprise!” and could not have been easier to create, thanks to the new Cake Day collection from Close to My Heart. When a company has designed a traditional layout collection, and also incorporates pocket cards into the product lineup, creating in this mixed format is simple and easy!
I started out creating a layout that could stand on its own, which featured a large, favorite photo from the special day. I made that photo visually important by framing it with bright colors in my title and embellishments.
Adding tiny stamped details, like the banner featuring the year and the balloon strings, which came from the same Cake Day scrapbooking stamp, gave this layout a more personal touch and added balance to the page.
I pulled the same colors from my layout over to the right to create my pocket page. Adding this page brought all of the details from the day to my album, and allowed me to get more product play in with the Cake Day Picture My Life cards and sticker sheet!
By alternating the Picture My Life cards with photos and filling in with minimal embellishment, this side of the spread adds more movement and interest, without overwhelming the primary focal point, the large photo on the right.
A few sequins added the perfect, sparkly finishing touch to the spread, and helped tie together the two sides even further! If you want to see how this page came together, check out my process video, available now on the SCT YouTube channel:
I hope you have enjoyed this happy and colorful birthday project today, and that it will inspire you to document all of your special celebrations, in two ways! Happy 16th birthday, SCT!
