Happy Friday, friends! We’re so excited that the end of the week is here and we get to “weekend” for a few days, as SCT headquarters has been busy! This week we have shipped over 2100 boxes out to our Crop & Create Delivered Cardmaking attendees! Phew!

With all of the stress of getting packages out of the warehouse and to your doorsteps, we think a nice, relaxing weekend is in order, and what better way to relax than colour? Our friends at Crafter’s Companion are here today to share more Colorista inspiration, and if you’ve never heard of this brand new line of markers before, be sure to check out Wednesday’s blog post where they debuted all of their creative possibilities, and offered a giveaway of the entire Colorista collection! Let’s hear more, and see more card examples from Sara Davies!

Hi there, makers! Ready for some cardmaking inspiration? I’m Sara Davies from Crafter’s Companion and I’ve dropped by with a fabulous craft project using a brand new art and coloring brand, Colorista

Colorista

We’re going to be using Colorista Art Markers with a Crafter’s Companion stamp set to create this botanical and beautiful “Thank You” card in just a few easy steps. It’s a great way to explore the blending and layering effects of Art Markers, and enjoy a few minutes of mindful coloring at the same time!

This project is also part of my Facebook live event, so watch the video at the end of this post for full instructions.

For this project, I used the Terrarium stamp set from Crafter’s Companion, which includes 11 pieces you can mix and match to create your flourishing terrarium design. Colorista Art Markers are available in a rainbow of colors. For this make, I chose the Soft Tints set, which has eight subtle and elegant pastel shades that complement the contemporary stamp design.

The slightly transparent nature of the alcohol dye ink in these pens means you can layer up colors to add depth and even mix different colors together. It’s a great way to give your stamped designs some natural dimension and color.

Here are a few tips:

  • To make any color darker, simply layer the same color over the top.
  • The more layers you apply, the darker your shade will become!
  • Let each layer dry before applying the next for an even more pronounced effect.
  • To create a new color, apply your first color, allow it to dry then apply your second color on top! The base color will show through to create a new hue.
  • Play with the order you layer up colors to see how it affects the finished color!

Time for some cardmaking!

First, stamp your terrarium design onto white stamping card. For best results use an alcohol-proof inkpad that won’t run or smear when you add color with the Art Markers.

Once you have your chosen designs it’s time to start coloring! For this card, I used the technique of blending one color into another to create a gradient, ombre effect. It looks amazing but is simple to achieve.

Add the lighter of your two colors first, for example, with the blue designs I started with the Duck Egg marker, working my way down from the top of the leaf, but stopping before the bottom. Then I used the darker shade, Pearl Blue, and coloured up from the bottom of the leaf, but leaving the top. Last, I used the lighter shade again and gently applied it over the boundary between the two colors until the blend looked seamless.

This is such a fun effect to play with! If you like, you can play with different color combinations on a spare piece of card before choosing a palette for your design.
