Welcome to day two of our Summer Issue Challenge Week, leading us up to the release of our Summer 2022 Issue! Today we have a sketch challenge for you—always a favourite of our readers! Wendy Sue Anderson is reminding us that we can take a sketch and make it our own with her beautiful, and festive layout! Let’s take a look, and don’t forget to find out what you can win at the end of the post if you play along with today’s challenge!

Hi, friends! It’s Wendy Sue here today, sharing a layout I created based on a fun sketch from the Spring 2022 Issue. I wanted to create a summer layout, and what says “summer” in America more than the 4th of July? Our family often attends a huge firework show and concert in Provo, Utah, and I love using themed products to document our fun excursion every year.

I chose this sketch, featured on page 30. It’s actually part of a two-page sketch, but I chose to use the right page portion only. If you’re not a double-page scrapbooker, using only one side of a double-page sketch is a great option!

Here’s a peek at the layout I created based on the sketch and featuring the “Let Freedom Ring” collection by Echo Park Paper:

As you can see, some pieces of the layout are a very straightforward interpretation of the sketch, like the background, but I changed other parts to work with a single photo. For example, instead of three horizontal photos, I chose to use a single photo and two 6 x 4-inch cards in a vertical line.

I couldn’t resist pulling some red, white, and blue baker’s twine from my stash to wrap around the only photo I have of my boys at the show. And what’s a patriotic page with stars? I added loads of die-cut stars!

I just love the stitched star dies from Echo Park Paper.

I used lots of enamel dots to embellish the printed pieces from the collection too.

The little dots add just the right touch of dimension and firework-like shine to the page.

Now it’s your turn! Take a look at the sketches in the Spring 2022 Issue and see which one inspires you to document a fun summer memory!
