…………………….
Hello SCT friends! My name is Suzanna and I’m here today to share with you a birthday layout! SCT is celebrating their 16th birthday, and what better way to celebrate than with cake? This layout of my son’s 19th birthday cake features Therm O Web’s DecoFoil paired with the Simple Stories’ Celebrate collection. When considering the construction of your pages, some key design principles are important to keep in mind. These elements create a cohesive look for your page. Read on to find out more!
Supplies | Therm O Web: DecoFoil Transfer Gel Duo, DecoFoil Transfer Foils (aqua, gold & denim); Simple Stories Celebrate collection: Collection kit, chipboard stickers, bits & pieces, puffy stickers, sticker book, chipboard frames, stencil; American Crafts: ZIG embossing powder (clear); Elle’s Studio: Make a Wish stamp, Make a Wish metal dies
Different parts of your scrapbook layout should have different levels of importance. There should be a focal point, or something that stands out—something that your eye is first drawn to. With so many photos on the page, they become the focal point of this page. If you want to take it a little bit further, this 4 x 6 inch photo with the chipboard frame is the prime focal point, as the depth of the frame adds more emphasis to this particular photo.
Your next consideration will be “flow management,” or movement. This will be your visual triangle; three clusters, matching or not, but with some connection, that guide your eye around the page. However, I have chosen to use a diagonal line as my central design element. With a diagonal slant, there is inherent movement as the line guides your eye across the whole composition. In this case, the strong diagonal line is from the top, right, through the photos, and down to the bottom, left.
Within that line, you will find the repetition of elements that lead your eye down the page. Can you guess what those elements are? Let me give you a hint, I intentionally pulled two more from the Bits and Pieces pack to coordinate with those found on the chipboard frame, my focal element, and used them at the end of the line. Did you guess correctly? The fold paper fan/circles— correct!
Also within this diagonal line are the three main elements; photo, title, and journaling. Your eye is guided by the line through the critical storytelling elements while the rest is “fun,” or support of the principle story.
Separated from the main line by the white space, you find this little party or celebration of foiled confetti and candles. These embellishments are “support.” They play a role in the overall design of the page by adding balance. Had I not put them here, the top, left corner of the page would be top-heavy and unbalanced. This little cluster is the counter-balance with some white space to let your eye rest and not be overstimulated.
Be sure to watch the video below to see how this page came together, and a tutorial on how to add foil to your layouts!
I hope I have inspired you to consider the design of your pages to better tell your story. Remember that lines are the building blocks of design, they give personality to the design. Hard to choose the best birthday out of 67 of them. The most recent is the 1 I like best.
One of my most fun birthday memories was on my 30th. I threw myself a roller skating party, and of course, made my own invitations! It was time to feel like a kid again!
My happiest birthday memory was the surprise party my family planned on my 30th birthday!
Best birthday moments! When I get to share my birthday with my daughters.
My happiest birthday memory would be spending the day at Disney.
My happiest birthday memory was spending the special day with my 1st boyfriend, a first time for me where I really had a birthday cake, gift and dinner.

A favourite memory is my 61st birthday which I spent with my parents in Florida & went on my first cruise, such a fun memorable Caribbean cruise. The cruise line made a big deal out of my birthday & I was serenaded by the staff during supper, birthday cake etc.
The best birthday I’ve ever had was when my husband threw me a surprise 40th birthday party. I had no idea that he was planning a 40th birthday party for me friends and family gather in the park. It was a nice way to celebrate being 40.
My happiest memory was, standing in my mums kitchen and my aunty telling me I would never be one number again!!! Yes, I was turning 10!!
I don’t know why this has stuck with me, and brings back fond memories of my childhood………and that was 53years ago????
Thank you SCT, all the sponsors, and fabulous business donating products.

My happiest birthday memory is when my daughter had a surprise birthday party for my 50th birthday!! I had absolutely no clue and walked into a house full of our closest friends!! Thanks for the chance to win these incredible prizes.
My happiest birthday celebration was when I woke up on my 40th birthday to find panda bears all over my front lawn & a sign wishing me a happy 40th birthday from my sisters.
I loved turning 5, my grandma made my favourite flavoured cake and it had ballerina figurines on top. Happy Birthday SCT ????
Such great prizes! My favourite birthday memories are all the years that I got to celebrate with my extended family. Being a Thanksgiving baby meant celebrating surrounded by family while eating turkey with all the fixings and my mom’s carrot cake.
On my 23rd birthday I celebrate the way I love: traveling to a city I’ve never been, having a wonderful local meal and just creating memories ☺️.
My happiest birthday was spending my 30th birthday in Lake Placid, NY watching my favorite skaters.
My happiest birthday was when my husband and daughters planned a day off of work for me and took me on a fishing trip.
One of my happiest birthdays was when I turned 16. I went to a movie with a friend then we both dot our drivers permit. I felt so independent.
There were two birthdays I remember. One I was a younger child, maybe I was 10 and I had my first birthday party, all my friends came and I felt special, we played, had lunch and had cake and ice cream, oh and presents!!! The second I remember well is my 40th surprise party my husband threw me, (well he did this very best), we celebrated me! But the one I’m really looking forward to is the next one…
Loved the pops of foil accents. Happy birthday young man!
My happiest birthday memory was last year when I celebrated my 50th. Because of covid we had a get together in my back yard with less people than I had originally wanted. However, it was still so great to spend some time with my friends and they went to a lot of work to make me feel special. Happy birthday to you, SCT!
Congratulations on 16 years of inspiration, and many more to come!
My favourite birthday memory is from 1993 when I realized I was in labor with my first child! I showed up at the hospital wearing a birthday pin on my sweater, kept it pinned to my elegant Johnny shirt, the staff joined in on my celebration.
All my Birthday were great. For my 50th birthday we planned a trip to Las Vegas to see Celine Dion. We had excellent seats. We could see the all the dancer come down from the ceiling. It was an awesome show. We rented a car for a week and we went sightseeing. We drove over 400 miles.
My Sweet 16th was the happiest birthday memory. Was carefree and fun and my parents had a cookout for me and my friends! ????
This year (month)was a continual month of celebration. I am hitting a big number next year and I think my kids and husband wanted me to think birthdays are great to celebrate! They spoiled me rotten they are going to have a hard time beating this one again!
Best birthday was 12 years ago when the immediate family was intact and we were all together. Mom, dad, siblings, spouse, my daughter, and niece.

I don’t scrapbook, but this layout has features I could use on a card. Thank you for sharing & the opportunities to win such great prizes.
My mom & dad had a friends make me a doll cake for my 13th birthday. Something I had always wanted.
It’s hard to pick just one, so I will go with my most recent one: a birthday cruise!
My daughter’s 16th birthday was during COVID so no party. To cheer her up, we all showed up for dinner dressed as a different Harry Styles look. Harry is her favorite. Seeing my country boy of a husband in a yellow jacket and purple scarf and the look on my daughter’s face was priceless and one of the best birthdays I’ve ever been a part of.
I have so many happy birthday memories but the one that still stands out in my memory is the year our family was moving our house to a new foundation. We had no power so therefore unable to bake a birthday cake. My mom felt so bad. My aunt came to the rescue with a chocolate layer cake AND it had chocolate icing! Unheard of in our house as my dad wasn’t really a fan of chocolate. I was 5. It was 1960! Back in dinosaur times!!! Lol
Thank you for giving presents away on your birthday and for the chance to win. Awesome prizes.
My happiest birthday is hard to narrow down. As child with my parents love, 18 thinking I was on top of the world and partying the night away, 4 little boys singing happy birthday to me and the gorgeous macaroni necklaces, and there are so many new memories to be made as each year is a new adventure.
My favorite birthday memory was when my husband was able to pull off a surprise birthday party with family we were visiting in NJ!
In 2019 my husband and I both turned 50. To celebrate we spent a week in Las Vegas for his March birthday! Better to be somewhere warm in March than in June. We had a fabulous time and spent his day at the Grand Canyon.
WOW! Happy 16th Birthday SCT!! And what amazing prizes you are giving away. My favorite birthday memory was waking up on my 9th birthday to find a 10 speed bike in my bedroom with a giant red bow. I was so excited. And I had a party later that day that included a scavenger hunt. So much fun!
This past birthday was the best in recent memory as I were able to spend it with my kids in Frankenmuth. My birthday is a week before Christmas so we have been celebrating in Frankenmuth almost every year since they were very little (about 35 years). We had to miss 2021 so it was great to go back.
Hi! My fondest birthday memory is probably my Mom’s 85th celebration which happened to be the last one for her. It was so special.
These prizes look amazing and would be fun to use!
Wonderful birthday layout. Favorite birthday memory is a surprise birthday party by my church stamping group for my 50th.
Happy Sweet 16 Birthday! It was actually my 16th birthday that brings back fun memories of my first ever surprise party planned by my best friend and my parents. It was so fun to party with my school friends.
Love this birthday page!!
My work family gave me a surprise lunch and party this year. They are great!
Last year was my happiest birthday. I found out that day that I was accepted for my dream job and negotiated that I would work part time from Houston and part time from Calgary, where home is. That decision has had so many added benefits and opened so many new doors for our family! Plus I got to decorate another apartment that’s all mine and get some new scrapbook basics so I can fill my weekend and evenings crafting whileI’m there ????. Both our kids were born in Houston so that city will always have a special place in my heart and my new apartment is walking distance from the house we used to live at that time. What’s not to love ❤️ …
best birthday was seeing Bon Jovi in concert. kids and husband got together and got tickets for me.
