Scrapbook inspiration can be found in the most unusual places! I’ve had pages inspired by billboards, menus, wine labels and clothing catalogs. My most recent page was created after flipping through some of my daughter’s favorite coloring books. I loved the intricate floral, paisley and mandela patterns and wanted to try and incorporate them on a page!
After selecting a large medallion design, I scanned it into Photoshop and saved it as a .png file. I was then able to import it into the Silhouette software, trace the design, and cut it out of white cardstock. I sized it to 11.5 inches wide so it would fill most of a 12×12 layout. Then I trimmed papers from Amy Tangerine’s Sunshine & Good Times collection and adhered them to the backside of the die-cut, filling some of the areas with color and pattern. I’m not going to lie – this took awhile! But I put on some good music and ended up enjoying the process of filling each section. It was relaxing and a lot like coloring!
The finished result was pretty impressive and I almost didn’t want to cover it with photos & journaling. (This could easily be framed for fabulous DIY wall decor!) I decided to keep the design fairly simple, with just two photos and a bold title. I layered foam adhesive squares between the layers for dimension and here’s the page that resulted:
The script title is cut from the font Jenthill which I cut twice and layered to create a shadow effect. I also added a few strips of journaling and some pearl jewels to embellish the medallion.
To finish the page, I added a few tags in the upper left corner to help balance the weight of the photos on the right side of the page.
So keep your eyes peeled for inspiration – it can pop up just about anywhere! And when it does, I challenge you to incorporate it into your next layout. Have fun!
