Hello, SCT friends, and Happy New Year! I’m Wendy Sue Anderson, and I am so excited to share a fun little card project with you today. Every issue of SCT magazine has a collection of PageMaps project sketches and I just love using them for my cards and layouts! The winter issue features several card sketches and I decided to choose one of them to add a few cards to my collection. I used this sketch featured on page 29:

I used the sketch to create a set of colorful birthday cards!

Supplies | Patterned paper, die cuts, enamel dots and stickers, white twine; white thread, metal dies: Echo Park Paper; Cardstock: Carta Bella Paper; Foam adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L

I think it’s common to look at a sketch and a project and forget that you can alter the orientation, switch around the elements, and even change up the theme! The projects featured in the magazine using this sketch had a winter theme, but I wanted to prep some birthday cards to have on-hand, so I opted to pull out the Birthday Salutations collection from Echo Park Paper to use for my cards. Here’s a closer look at the first card:

The fun “Hip Hip Hooray” square piece was die-cut from a page in the 6×6 paper pad. I just love how the stitched dies mimic machine stitching!

I also used foam adhesive squares behind the main square piece and one of the circle pieces – I just love the subtle depth this gives!

My second card follows the sketch closely as well, But I used a pre-printed die-cut instead of cutting a piece from patterned paper.

Remember to put your stickers to work for you as well! I tucked confetti under the border strip stickers and added the balloon bouquet next to the sentiment.

Did I mention how much I love a good birthday collection that can be used for girls or guys – it makes it easy to create cards ahead of time!

Which sketch is your favorite in this issue? They are all so fun and versatile – take a few minutes to create a card based on one of our winter issue sketches, I bet you’ll be hooked, just like I am!
