Welcome, September!

I know it might be jarring to see Christmas cards at the beginning of September, but if you want to make a bunch of cards, you’ve got to get started now, am I right? Anyone who knows me well knows that I am a far-in-advance-master-planner, so I am highly in favor of pacing myself to accomplish my goals!

These cards are pretty special since they were commissioned and have already traveled from Utah to Indiana. For 9 years I taught at a tiny Lutheran school in Woodburn, Indiana, which is actually the smallest city in the state! I came to the school from Las Vegas, so the residents of Woodburn were pretty in awe of my flashy, big city ways!

While there, I made many wonderful friends and taught countless students. And now, one of my former students is on the fundraising committee which hosts an auction each year, and she asked if I would contribute a couple of sets of cards. I was happy to do so.

Enter My Mind’s Eye! I pulled out the fun papers from the Holly Jolly collection and whipped up a quick, mass-produced collection of cards.

The gold foiling that is part of the design of the papers added a special touch with no extra work, and the Lawn Fawn twine gave each card a quick bit of texture.

This pink design was my favorite! I loved all the red and pink, but the design still makes it decidedly Christmas. My Concord & 9th inks are just right for crisp stamping and the perfect colors!

My other favorite was this green one in more traditional colors. And the simple tree shape die cut from gold sparkle paper was an easy way to give the set cohesiveness!

In true mass-produced style, I did everything in steps—folded card bases, paired cardstock fronts to patterned papers, trimmed patterned papers, die-cut all trees, stamped all sentiments, and then die cut each. Then it was assembly time! Here is what I did:

  1. Adhere patterned paper panel to cardstock panel.
  2. Adhere sentiment with foam tape.
  3. Tuck tree behind the sentiment and adhere with foam tape.
  4. Tie twine bow and adhere panel to card base.

I hope you have a wonderful and stress-free fall filled with creativity and happiness! And don’t forget, there’s a new issue from SCT coming your way before the month is out!
