Welcome to day seven of our 12 Days of Holiday Giving event! We’re decking the halls with garlands & baubles, but isn’t everything better when it’s handmade? We think so! Today, we’re going to let Wendy Sue Anderson show off a beautiful decor piece that she created with a new holiday collection, and we hope that it will inspire you to create something handmade for your home this season!
Hello, Scrapbook & Cards Today friends! I am so excited to join my fellow design team members for the 12 Days of Holiday Giving! I’m Wendy Sue and I was lucky to be able to work with the Yuletide collection from LDRS Creative to create a fun holiday décor project!
The Yuletide collection is filled with the most gorgeous prints with a traditional, even vintage, feel and I wanted to create something to honor the décor of the past! I set out to create something unique to share with you. Here’s how it turned out:
Supplies | Patterned Paper, die-cuts: LDRS Creative; Cardstock: Echo Park Paper, American Crafts; Die-cutting machine: Silhouette Cameo; Electronic Cut Files: Lori Whitlock, Carta Bella, Echo Park; Other: Stickles, enamel dots, ribbon, rusty star garland
I started out creating the mini houses and I intended to create a little scattering of homes and trees to make a village.
I embellished the houses with ephemera pieces from the die-cut pack, hand-cutting some greenery, trees, and other little pieces that would fit on them. I added Stickles to the edges of the rooftops for some snowy vibes. As I worked to assemble and decorate the houses, my vision changed and evolved. I grabbed a wooden embroidery hoop and started die-cutting pine boughs and greenery sprigs to cover the hoop.
Next, I added the beautiful poinsettia die cuts from the Yuletide collection, followed by the houses! I used enamel dots to add little white “berries” to the greenery.
I’ve had this little rusty star garland in my stash for so many years, and I thought this was the perfect time to finally open it up and use it. I twisted it around the entire wreath just to add some extra dimension and texture.
I’m so happy with my little holiday village wreath. The beautiful poinsettias and the gorgeous prints – and did I mention GOLD FOILING? Yes, gold foiling—and it’s absolutely stunning—made the sweetest little holiday houses. This wreath is already hanging in my home and it makes me smile every time I look at it.
I hope you’re able to create something this holiday season, something that makes your heart happy every time you see it.
Happy holidays, my crafty friends!
