Hi SCT friends! It’s Jess Forster here, and one of my favourite traditions as a parent is watching my kids dress up and trick-or-treat on Halloween. October 31st is just around the corner and looking back through my photos, I wanted to create a “spooky” layout for my son Sam’s scrapbook album telling the story of his Halloween costume when he was 3 years old. Have a look:

I loved the colourful combination of fonts and motifs from the Simple Stories FaBOOlous collection. I decided to create a 6 x 8-inch double pocket page layout about Sam’s Halloween in his fireman costume. I can’t believe that was almost 5 years ago!

When working in small-sized pockets, I want to add depth and texture. I cut the 4 x 12-inch paper of 2 x 2-inch elements into a 4 x 6-inch card and added journaling in one of the small squares. I also created my own 3 x 4-inch journaling card from the 6 x 8-inch paper pad, typing up my journaling, and added the “eek” as a title from the Simple Stories FaBOOlous Bits and Pieces pack. I also added decorative die cuts and cardstock stickers to my photos to create interest around my layout.

Pocket pages that are simple can be visually captivating, no matter the scale of your design. Clustering your fonts, motifs, and embellishments can be a great way to add interest, especially like those cute ghosts from the Simple Stories FaBOOlous line. Thanks for reading! Happy Halloween!
