Hey there, Scrapbook & Cards Today friends! It’s Becki here to share with you a layout that I created for the Fall 2021 issue and a bonus layout! The SCT team challenged me to create a fall-themed layout with a non-traditional color scheme. I chose to work with the Farmer’s Market collection from Echo Park Paper.

When I get in my creative groove, sometimes I create an extra project and this was the case for this assignment!

I had so much fun die cutting and stitching dozens of fall leaves, I couldn’t stop! Many of the leaves that I die cut came from the 6×6 paper pad. I love using 6×6 paper pads for a couple of reasons. One: the smaller patterns work well on smaller die cuts. Two: I don’t have to cut into a brand new piece of 12×12 paper for a couple of small die cuts.

After I die-cut the leaves, I drew lines mimicking veins on each leaf with a pencil. Then, I poked holes for the stitching using a paper piercer and a foam pad. To find embroidery floss that matched each paper perfectly, I put a die cut of each color in my purse and took them with me to the craft store. Then, I matched each leaf to the perfect color of embroidery floss.

Each leaf only took a few minutes to stitch. I love hand stitching! I keep a pouch of stitching supplies that I carry with me when I’m away from my desk. Many of these leaves were stitched while I was watching television with my husband, waiting for kids in the school pickup line, and while I was visiting with family at my parent’s house. Crafting doesn’t have to be limited to a desk!!

When I had all the leaves ready to go, I was ready to put them on my layout. I couldn’t help but put these gorgeous leaves into a wreath shape. I cut a large circle and adhered it to the center of my background paper. I tucked the leaves under the circle. I was careful to spread out the shape and color of each leaf around the circle so that the layout would be balanced.

After creating the wreath shape, the rest of the layout came together quickly and easily. I printed a couple of photos that I took when my husband and I went for a drive in the mountains to see all the beautiful fall colors. It’s one of my favorite things to do each year! Who doesn’t love beautiful fall photos? After adding my photos, I completed the layout with a title and a few strips of journaling.

I am thrilled with how this project came together. I’m already thinking of ways that I can create another wreath shaped layout with lots of hand-stitched little bits.

I’m always grateful to Catherine, Susan, Meghann, and the entire SCT team for having me as a part of their magazine and blog. I still have that giddy feeling when I see my work in such a spectacular magazine!

Thank you for spending part of your day here with me on the SCT blog. Have a wonderful day!
