Hello! It’s Rachelle with you today! I love creating ocean and underwater scenes and the “Be A Mermaid” Stamp/Die Set from Pink & Main is the perfect starting point! This set has so many great mermaid images and they pair perfectly with the sweet, scripty sentiments! Take a look at what I created with it: 

I began by creating lots of ocean backgrounds by adding 4-5 drops each of several Distress Oxide Reinkers onto my glass mat, spraying the ink heavily with water, and tapping panels of white card stock onto the surface until I was happy with the coverage. It’s fun to add a bit of glitter paste and pearl watercolors to the glass as well – it really makes the finished background panels shine!

When using a coordinating die for the first time, I always run it through my machine with a piece of scrap paper first and then align that negative area over my colored image just to make sure that the margins are correct. After spending so much time coloring the images, this saves me a lot of heartaches and ensures perfect alignment every time! And since I almost always back my die cut images with an extra “blank” for dimension, I’ve automatically got one ready to go!

When using so many small dies on a single project, I have made it a strict habit to keep all of them in the magnetic bowl on my desk as soon as I pop the images out! I haven’t lost a single die since using this system!

I kept the design on my card front simple since the underwater scene on the inside was the star attraction but I did add some great texture to the water with the “Catch A Wave” Embossing Folder! 

The simple mountain fold in the center of this design is very effective for floating images on acetate strips and I love the swimming mermaid! This card opens almost like a book and looks great standing vertically on display!
