Hello friends! This is Mindy with you today! Mixed media can sound a little intimidating but it’s really not. Basically, it’s a matter of using at least two different mediums on your project. A couple of the most common ways to do this is with heat embossing and pastes.

One of the things I really love about mixed media is the artistic freedom. It allows me to experiment with different things, how products work, and what they look like together. Not that I can’t do that in other cards, but when I set my mind to creating a mixed media project, I feel a little more free.

Hero Arts carries a wide variety of products that are great for mixed-media projects. One of those products I’ve really been enjoying lately are the sprays. I’ll give you a little walk-through of how easy it was to put this card together.

I started by wetting a piece of watercolor paper, sprayed my craft sheet with the Blue & Shimmer Metallic Spray, and then drug my wet paper through the spray.

After the panel was completely dry, I added a few of the Collage Backgrounds Hero Transfers. I have one bleeding off the left edge of my paper and the other two bleeding in from the top and bottom in a different orientation.

Next, I took the Cobblestone Stencil and applied Gold Hero Paste through the stencil with a palette knife. I try to purposely make it look imperfect for a more interesting look.

There is a bunch more I could have added to this panel, but I didn’t want it to be overwhelming. Mixed media can be very clean and simple, believe it or not!

To help reign in the background a little I added a frame to the outside using the Hero Arts Rectangle Infinity Die and Pitch Black cardstock. I picked out the size frame I wanted and die cut it. Then, I used that frame as a guide, holding it over a piece of white cardstock, and chose a slightly smaller frame.

This created a double frame, which looks amazing when popped up with foam tape.

I finished it off with a nice, bold sentiment in white using the Just Saying die set from Concord & 9th backed with vellum for the shadow layer.

I truly hope this card inspires you to give mixed media a try! You may already be doing it and not even realize it. Happy crafting!
