Hello there friends! We are continuing with our Fall Issue Challenge Week here on the SCT blog, and today’s challenge is our favourite of the week! Sketches are the perfect tool to keep in your papercrafting kit to help you create when you need a boost, and we may just have a few in our free download library! We challenged Nathalie to create starting with a sketch from the Summer 2022 Issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine. Let’s see what Nathalie created using a sketch as inspiration!

…………………….

Hi there! It’s Nathalie with you today to share a new project inspired by a sketch in the Summer 2022 Issue. As the weather is changing here, I thought that it would be fun to document the season (because let’s be honest, we all love fall!) in a new scrapbook layout.

I choose this sketch because a grid design is always a simple style that can be used to create a symmetrical and well-balanced page, plus, you get to play with paper in a neat and organized way! Let’s take a look at the sketch, featured in page 29 of the Summer Issue:

Here is the page I created featuring the Welcome Fall collection by Carta Bella!

Supplies | Cardstock, patterned paper, ephemera, cardstock stickers, enamel dots, frames: Welcome Fall by Carta Bellal; Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Ink: Pinkfresh Studio; Stamp: 1Canoe2; Pen: Muji Fine liner

As you can see, I made a few changes while staying true to the original grid design of the page.

The grid design of the page is perfect for playing and mixing up patterned papers. The key is to play with a determined color palette, or in this case a single paper collection. I choose to flip my grid design by 90 degrees, that means that my grid sits along the vertical line of the page.

I chose to keep the picture’s orientation as per the sketch. I love the contrast between the grid background orientation, and that of the photos. For my page, I am using two smaller photos. These were framed with ephemera pieces from the collection to make them stand out on the page.

By keeping the photos in their original position (as per the sketch), I was able to add the title to the right of the photos. However, I needed to move one of the embellishment clusters to the top of the page to balance the grid design.

To finish the page, I framed the entire page with patterned paper, and added a few lines of journaling. I hope this inspires you to use the sketch for a project of your own!
