We’re so happy to be here for another day of Giving Thanks Week here on the SCT blog! Today, Meghann Andrew is with us to share gratitude for the craft of memory keeping—a hobby that not only allows her to express her creativity but also to document memories that are special to her. Let’s take a look at what she has created to share with us today!
Hello, friends! Welcome to another day of inspiration during our Giving Thanks Week event! I’m Meghann Andrew, and I’m excited to share a new layout that I created with you today! Every time I create a new layout, I show my appreciation and gratitude for the moment that I’m recording, and I think of my albums as time capsules of those moments of gratitude. Take a look at one of these moments that I documented using the What’s Cookin’ collection from Simple Stories:
Supplies | Patterned paper, stickers, die-cut ephemera, chipboard, adhesive brads: Simple Stories What’s Cookin’ collection, mini alphabet stickers: Simple Stories Color Vibe collection alphabet sticker book – fall; Foam alphabet stickers: American Crafts; Punch: EK Success Confetti Mickey Ears punch; Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, Scrapbook.com; Stamp: Elle’s Studio; Ink: Memento; Other: twine
One thing I am especially grateful for is my love of being in the kitchen! Baking and cooking for my family makes me truly happy, and this layout records a baking session with my daughter to make one of our favorite holiday treats—Mickey-shaped gingerbread cookies! The best part about creating this page was that I used one of our Fall 2023 Issue sketches to bring it together! Here’s the sketch that helped me create the base of my page and determine the placement of my patterned paper and photos:
This collection has a definite fall vibe to it, but to make it a bit more “Christmas-y” I chose beautiful red floral and green plaid patterned papers. From there, I chose where I wanted to add my title, journaling, and embellishments to the page. I started by creating a layer of embellishment at the top of my photos with a tag cut from patterned paper and a cute little die cut of jars on a shelf.
I love a big title, even on an 8-1/2 x 11″ layout, and I created this one using “home” from the What’s Cookin Bits & Pieces ephemera, foam alphabet stickers in a pretty serif font, and a mini alphabet from Simple Stories. To add interest to the title, I placed a die-cut bowl, spatula, and measuring spoons around the title.
To tie into the subject of my page, creating Mickey-shaped gingerbread to replace the park-favorite treat that I was missing, I punched Mickey icons using a confetti punch from EK Success and placed the shapes around the page—in two places where they would be tone-on-tone with the background and another in the title! I loved this added touch that relates to the story of the layout.
Scrapbooking is truly a practice of gratitude for me. I get to document cherished memories, and work with beautiful products that I love! I hope that this project inspires you to document anything you are grateful for on a layout, traveler’s notebook, pocket page, or Memorydex card and enjoy the process of creating!

One memory I’m grateful for is from Thanksgiving manny years ago when I was a kid and we were at my grandma’s house. I was standing on a kitchen chair and peeling potatoes over the sink for mashed potatoes that day. Thinking of that memory always reminds me of how sweet my grandma was and all that I learned from her. I also am reminded of what she always told me “patience is a virtue”. I think she had the most influence in helping me become the patient person I am known to be. Thank you Grandma!❤️????????
