Hello, SCT friends! It’s Meghann Andrew here with you today, and spring is definitely in the air! Here in Texas, we have beautiful weather, so instead of spending lots of time in my studio, we’re enjoying our patio instead, leaving me less time to scrapbook. One great way to create quickly is to look for inspiration from a past SCT issue, and even though the spring 2020 issue just released, there are timeless designs found in each issue! I flipped through the Spring 2016 issue to find a gem from our friend Virginia Nebel, located in the 3Ts column on page 25 to inspire me! What did I love about Virginia’s layout? Essentially, everything! I loved the rays of patterned paper on the background, the cluster of embellishments and the big title at the base! I used these three design ideas, along with the gorgeous Garden Party scrapbook kit to create my page:

With the papers and embellishments all coordinated for me, putting this layout together using Virginia’s beautiful design only took about 20 minutes! I started by choosing the patterns from the Garden Party scrapbook kit that I wanted to make up the rays on my background—all bright and cheerful colors with a variety of pattern types. Mixing and matching patterns is easy when the hardest work of coordinating them has been done for you! But, I made sure to use completely different types of patterns—small polka dots versus large polka dots, florals and tone-on-tone designs—next to each other.

With a landscape photo instead of a portrait photo, I amended my embellishments to be placed around my photo, framing the image. I added a tag layered underneath my photo, just like Virginia’s page, but my tag held my hidden journaling, which slides out from behind the photo. I also added the beautiful American Crafts Dear Lizzy floral die cuts from the kit on three corners of my photo, and tucked fussy-cut Pink Paislee florals below.

My favorite part of almost any project is the title, and I loved how Virginia’s mixed a bold, sans-serif capital font with a script! I decided to mix three different elements to create my title: the Pink Paislee puffy words, the exclusive “spring” teal acrylic, and the Dear Lizzy tri-colour Thickers, all found in the Garden Party scrapbook kit! Using three different materials and three different font styles created a fun contrast at the base of my layout, and really made the title pop!
