Hello, friends! It’s Andrea Lake with you today and I am sharing a project with my favorite technique: Layering! I am using the gorgeous Fresh Air collection by Simple Stories. When I think of layering, I think of all the different ways I can apply this technique to my page. Creating embellishment clusters is the most common way to apply the layering technique, but you can also layer your patterned papers to create colorful and interesting backgrounds, and you can also layer different products along with your photos to make these shine on the page.

Supplies | Simple Stories Fresh Air collection: papers, chipboard and cardstock stickers, bits & pieces, journaling bits, rub-ons, sticker book, layered stickers, chipboard frames, page pieces and enamel dots; Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L: E-Z Runner Grand, Crafty Foam Tape, 3D Foam Squares, 3D Foam Strips; We R Makers: All-in-One Tool, journaling pen

The photo was the starting point for this layout. Once I decided on the size of the photo, I started building my background by adding my first set of layers. I chose a light blue background, a wide orange centerpiece, and then tucked in a couple of yellow and green stripes at the top and bottom of the orange piece. I added machine stitching details as a way to create one extra layer with some texture and it was then time to create a new layered focal point: my photo!

Even though we are focusing on layering for this layout, let’s also keep in mind COLOR. We’ll be creating our layers and clusters keeping color in mind to make our page stand out.

I used a couple of chipboard frames from the Fresh Air collection and a floral patterned paper to mat my photo. I love the dimension I got by using the frames. The patterned paper matches the photo perfectly as well. The cluster on the left brings up the pink and navy blue from the photo, paper, and frame and I added a cluster of clouds to go with the sun and the patterned paper on the background.

The cluster on the right side also includes these colors, making your eyes move diagonally from left to right, keeping a consistent color palette and allowing you to see all the details from each layered cluster. I love that Simple Stories always has big, bold title stickers. These are my go-to options for titles for my layouts and mini album covers. I added it to the center of the photo and layered a banner sticker under it as a way to frame the journaling.

I really love this page. This was a very happy day shared with a wonderful group of creative ladies. We all dressed in white, took a group picture, ate under the stars, and enjoyed some live music. I don’t think it can get better than that. I am also happy to be able to relive these memories while creating scrapbook layouts to keep in my albums forever. I hope you enjoyed this project and I’d love to see what you create applying the layering technique while using this beautiful and colorful Fresh Air collection by Simple Stories!
