Today we’re introducing a brand new blog and YouTube series called Clean & Simple with Cathy Zielske. Not only is Cathy our magazine’s art director, but she’s a dedicated crafter, having been a scrapbooker since the early 2000s and a card maker for the past two years. Cathy will share her simple designs each month, as well as simplifying ways to create cards or layouts that you love. Take it away, Cathy!
Emboss Resist + Watercolour Markers + Honey Bee Stamps
Do you ever get frustrated when trying to color in stamped images with lots of detail? If you’re like me, I love the look but have a hard time achieving it myself. I’m not a masterful marker user! But today, I’m sharing a simple way to add color using the emboss resist technique that I really believe simplifies the process of coloring images.
Using just four watercolor markers (Bumblebee Yellow, Orange, Bubblegum Pink and Rouge Pink), I created rainbow butterflies in literally a fraction of the time it would have taken me to add detailed coloring.
A little ink blend in the center connects the three butterflies that I ended up using, plus the entire card is framed with a nice white margin of space. Here is the video showing you the full process:
Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope this inspires you to simplify the ways in which you add colour to detailed images! To see a full list of the supplies Cathy used for this project, visit her blog HERE!
Yay! I love Cathy’s beautiful card projects and her CAS approach. I started cardmaking around the same time Cathy did and have learned a lot from her and other designers. I’m sure this new CAS series is sure to be a hit! :D
Beautiful. I love this clean and simple card. Gives new life to my older stamp!!!!
So beautiful the images, coloring and layout! Love it!
Pretty card. I love all the little tips that you give along the way, and that you figure out a way to do things that work for you. You’re not perfect. I love that!
OK! I loved your tip about the water coloring as mine always look like a “hot mess”. No one would ever know that you created such a masterpiece so easily. Thank you, thank you, thank you…….
Beautiful card! Love the coloring tips. Looking forward to next month’s episode.
Beautiful card Cathy–love the water color butterflies!
What a beautiful card! I’m not very confident in my coloring skills, so this looks like a great technique to try next. :)
Gorgeous card, with a great colour scheme!
The butterflies are so pretty with the background and sequins. Love the sentiment.
I just bought some watercolor pens and I can’t wait to try this technique!
Lovely card. I love the colors and the clean layout. I’m looking forward to your monthly videos!
So cute. I love Cathy Z’s stuff. I took a class from her WAAAAAAY back when in Mesa and she confided in me it was her first convention class… SHE kicked booty and has been on my top ten to follow list ever since. She has a unique and fantastic way of looking at things. Her art is amazing.
Oh. My. Goodness. that WAS my first class, wherein I was told in an anonymous review that I moved around too much while teaching!!! True story. I learned to SLOW my roll. hahahah!
I Love this. I do not color well and this will make it so much easier. Thanks.
Oh la la – so vibrant, so fresh, so fabulous! Cathy’s cards are just a vision and I LOVE the warm palette on this super sweet butterfly card here! Just gorgeous!
I am a new crafter(70 years old)for this type of card making. I love and enjoy learning all the possibility. These butterfly are so light and colourful (choice of color are very pretty) you want them to be landing on your fingers. You are a good teacher. I keep you vidéo on file and return to them to make sure I master the tecnjque.
Merci
Yolande
Thank you so much, Yolande!
